Ahhhhhh... The Durans. I LOVE Duran Duran. Arena (1984) Is my favorite album. Brilliant artists. I just picked up an old book on synthesis today, to refresh what I've forgoten from synthesis class and low and behold, Nick Rhodes is screaming out some fat leads through an old roland keyboard on the cover. Awesome.
Who's with me? Are there any hardcore Duran Duran fans out there? If so, favorite song? Are they an influence to you?
My favorite songs would be (unordered): Wild Boys Late Bar, Save A Prayer, Careless memories (live arena version).. Ok well Everything on Arena. ok yeah everything they ever did. Supposedly a new album THIS YEAR!!! Are you stoked!?!?! Hehe

they're ok, the remake by 56K feat Bejay is much better, pumped up version.
If I had to pick some pumping tunes from that era, I'd pick Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams/Here Comes the Rain Again,
or Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax.
The stuff being released nowadays with vocals is stunning compared to the 80's stuff though. It's like a pumped up version of 80's synthpop, I love it. It's like synthpop on steroids, gets me excited. |

Double D or the Fab Five named after the angel "Duran Duran" from the Jane Fonda movie Barbarella. Yeah I'm a bit of a fan too. :D
Planet Earth
The Chauffeur
Girls on Film
Wild Boys
Reflex
Save a Prayer
A View To a Kill
Come Undone
All classic Duran Duran songs. |

The chaffeur.. one of my absolute favorites. the Arena version is off the hook.. anyway. Duran Duran was the enemy in Barbarella, .. was the enemy an angel or something? I don't remember. btw.. That movie was incredibly risky for its time, I was pretty amazed the first time I saw it (which wasn't when it came out of course, I'm only 20)
I always recommend a good Duran Duran listening to musicians that show a hint of promise as intelligent producers. The Durans are no ty pop band, they are really incredible innovators when you get into the depths of their music. If you're a simon fan I'm sure you're into Arcadia too. You know... in 81 when the D's made their debut with planet earth, they were internationally recognized as something of the "boyband" sort before they were known as the ambiguous gender/age trancsendants and genius musicians that are still being enjoyed today by all. Then look at the "boyband" archetype now. Disgraceful. |

Yeah I'm not generally someone who goes out of their way to be a hardcore original-version-only humper, but seriously, this has to be a joke. |
