So I'm about to buy a vestax 275, and a couple of m3d's. What about needles? I plan to mix trance. I don't want to go all out here, but I don't want the janks either. What should I look for?

if money if no problem, get the whitelabels from shure. They're the best ones around. Bellow the whitelabels you've got the nightclubs. Be sure to get the E-version (elliptical needle) and not the S(spherical). Search the forum and you'll find an explanation why. They're still pretty expensive. I've got the ortofon condord pro. They're decent needles and not too expensive. It's up to you to see what amout of money you wanna spend, but I suggest to search your needle between these three.

I would say that you should try and get some first hand experience yourself.
As you will see carts are a very personal thing. I am a die hard Ortofon Concord user and absolutely hate the Shure carts as I think they are crap. I know not everyone agrees and my reasons are more personal than based on any technical specs.
The thing I would say about the Shure whitelabe is that it's over priced and does by no means make the concords look bad.

You will most likely get a load of people here argueing to and fro but the answer is that there is no definitive answer. You must have an inclination as to what you might want to see yourself using. Stick with it as it was probably right for you.

Once you start getting up in concord price range usually most things around that area sound really good regardless of who actually made it and what it looks like.
If anyone asks me what I would recomend I would always say Ortofon.
The silly thing about most of the threads which cover this subject is that no one can actually give a reason why one is better than the other simply because most of the stuff by Shure and Ortofon is good.

The only cart I suggest you keep away from is the Shure M44-7. It can be a bitch to mount and has a tendancy to skip a lot if you don't get it right. Not to mention the way it wears on the vinyl. It is however designed with Turntablist in mind so when mounted correctly has tracking like no other.

Cheers
