i'm into digital photography and video. i want to get a green screen so i can do some effects and backdrop stuff.

Just go to any store tha specializes in paint only and ask them for "Chroma-Key" paint in whatever color you want. They come in red, green, and blue I believe. Then you just paint a white wall or a large piece of white canvas with it and voila!.
If you want to buy Chroma-Key fabrics (ones that are already dyed that color) try calling up RoseBrand www.rosebrand.com . They are pretty much the #1 fabric supplier to the entertainment industries and they will defnitely have what you need.
(I believe you were asking about the actual settings not what software to use. Otherwise my answer is pointless, sigh.)
