final scratch hardware?

does anyone know if its possible to purchase the scratchamp seperately from the final scratch package?
auujay
It is not.

The scratchamp is the crapiest part of the whole package (well except for the non existant support...). If anything you would want the software and a different scratchamp :)

It is a drag for people who want to have a backup (I know of some guy who bought 2 FS packages so he would have a backup ScratchAmp). It is also Stanton/NI's main anti-piracy device, though I hear the new version 1.5 has an insane registration process which will be hard to get around anyway.

You mean, it's going to be a pain in the ass for paying users to use the damn thing, yet will be cracked in about a day, right ?

FS is now available on Windows XP / 2000:

http://www.nativeinstruments.de/index.php?home_us

"The revolutionary STANTON FINALSCRATCH® DJ system is now ready for Windows. In close cooperation with Stanton, Native Instruments developed a new TRAKTOR FS 1.5 update that makes it possible to use the FINALSCRATCH® hardware with Windows XP/2000 for the first time ever. With this step the revolutionary hardware/software combination is available for DJs everywhere looking to mix digital files from their Windows systems with hands-on turntable control. The TRAKTOR FS 1.5 update also introduces some powerful new features, including the outstanding sounding Key Correction function: DJs can now change the tempo without affecting the pitch. The update for Windows is available immediately as a direct download from the NI Online Shop, and can be preordered on CD ROM. Version 1.5 will be available soon for Mac OS X as well, including new features plus new drivers for "Panther"."

Pfft, final scratch. For the cost of it, and a decent laptop, you can get a Pioneer CDJ 1000 Mk2. For the cost of a good laptop, you can get 2 CDJ's. They do so much more (just look at James Zabiela). If you want to spin downloaded tracks like you can in FS, just burn them to CD. If you want to preserve your vinyl collection, just record them to your comp then burn them to CD (as well as store them on your HD). I certainly wouldn't want my whole damn record collection riding around on one hard drive, ESPECIALLY if I was a big name DJ on tour around the world. What happens when that laptop is stolen or dropped? Or when the HD just *poof!* dies? HD's don't last like they used to.

So then, what argument could you possibly make to support FS over a pair of excellent CDJ's? The "convienence" of not having to carry bags of records? Boo hoo. You're being payed damn good money to play records for a crowd for a few hours. Carry a damn record box, you . CD's are even lighter and if a big old bag of CD's is too heavy and inconvienent for you, then your probably beyond help.

It doesn't help that I keep hearing about how FS doesn't work for a lot of people.

FS is a classic case of a good idea, but no follow through.

Ehh, nothing against CD decks tho, they are a huge part of the performance now.

The new technics CDJ will be out soon, which uses a technics motor and a big huge platter to manipulate the feel. This should satisfy a lot of people looking for the vinyl feel in a CDJ. If the club you're playing at doesn't have CDJ's, why not bring your own along?

If not, why not just use vinyl? For the > $1200 it costs to get a final scratch setup, you can get well over 100 new records.

I just see absolutely no reason to use FS when CDJ's can do far, far more for the same price, and do a good enough job mimicing vinyl. If you still want that vinyl feel, just use records, carry them with you! You'll have your precious tunes safely stored in a big, sturdy box instead of a cheap laptop HD, where all your eggs are in one basket.

Iv used Pioneer cdj' 1000's and iv used DENON-S5000's, which is actually what I have at my house. Im SELLING both my pioneer and my denon and buying final scratch and a laptop.

I love the feel of vinyl, even with the big "Vinyl" plates that are on the cdj's. Not only that, but my mixing is far better with vinyl than with cdj's. For some reason, I can never get it "PERFECT" with a cdj. Dont know why that is.. but that is never a problem with my tech's

Anyway, to each his own. If Final scratch isn't for me, then I can alway sjust sell it and get a CDJ again :)

I will be testing the new Rane/Serrato Scratch product very soon. I will post what I think of it, as soon as I have time to test it out.

I have been a Final Scratch User since version 1.1, and I love it. I love the fact that I can play a track I just wrote/remixed, instantly. I have spent a lot of time with CDJs, other MP3 mixing programs, and I have been a DJ for over 4 years professionallly. CDJs have some great functions, but they don't have the pitch resolution that analog TTs do. Even the denon which has adjustable resolution isn't quite there. This is why you can get a perfect mix with turntables. But not with CDJs. I own a set of Denons, and they collect dust. I keep all my tracks on CDs as backups.

At any rate, I just wanted to say my two cents on the subject.

Final Scratch and things like it are the way of the future. Vinyl is great, and I will always love it. But it is time that we take the music to the next level. :)
