no

your optic nerve runs from the back of your eyeball from the retina straight to your brain.

and no i have no piercings or tattoos. Might get a small one on my upper chest one day :thepirate

Its got nothing to do with the optical nerve, its the facial nerves that control facial expressions. The Orbicularis oculi nerve forms a sphincter around the eyelid in three parts. This can get damaged but the likelihood is tiny

i would try to come up with a smart answer to this, since i'm doing a neuroscience unit in my degree at uni...but i can't. better get revising :whip:

but, since you said it forms a sphincter round the eye in 3 parts, i'd guess you'd have to damage it at all 3 parts, or at the root of the nerve...which would mean you'd be almost damaging your trigeminal nerve, so you wouldn't be able to control half you face :nervous:

Lol revision is evil!!

All piercings have a tiny risk that it could cause serious damage, uve jus gotta hope it aint when u get one done

yeah very true. Its just like tongue piercings as well, that theres a slight chance (and of course you always "hear" about this happening to someone) where the peircing goes thru the blood vessels in the tongue and can cause severe bleeding.

I guess this would be true, to an extent.. if you're getting a tongue piercing in the back alley of some hobo-town by a person who doesnt know what the hell they are doing.

I used to have an eyebrow ring. But i took it out. it suited me fine for a year and then i decided to take it out.

When i got mine pierced he kindly told me about the dangers of catching the veins and webbing AFTER he'd done it :nervous:
