Problems while recording

Heya all,

the past days I've been trying to record something I play on my turntables.

I use the line in on my onboard (via) mobo. The sound through my speakers(computer) is clean as a whistle but when I want to record it it gives alot of distorsion.
I mean, the bass is sooo horrible ed up and I don't know how to fix it.

In windows, I select as only record possibility, the Line in.

I used Cool edit pro, (could record but alot of distorsion - bass again) :/

So I moved to the next program, Wavelab.
I tried but coudn't record (not the demo).
Got some screens here:

Then I gave up again and used Soundforge.
It records but as mentioned before, the bass is horribly disformed (like I'm playing it way too loud).

Does any1 know how I could solve any of those 3 problem I have.

Would greatly appreciate it

Hmmmm.. I currently use Soundforge to record, and if I choose anything other than 16bit/44.1Khz I get really messed up recordings. But from the look of your pics, you have it setup to record at 16bit/44.1Khz, so my next guess would possibly be that you have the bass setup to high somewhere in the computer sound setup... that prolly isn;t the case tho... Make sure that your line in from the mixer to computer isn't clippin into the extreme red zone.. You pics didn't really show where that was the case.. but it would prolly be my only other guess as to what is the problem..

I use soundforge as well but your recording program should have nothing to do with the problem your experiencing. Like dj lazy said I would first check your record gains on the line in channel... Depending on your sound board you may not have to turn it up very much. If your gains look ok and your still getting this distortion then check your output gains on your mixer if you have them. Last but not lease if its still happening the only thing i can think of is that your cranking the bass too high on your mixer to compensate for a lack of low frequency's on your monitors/system.

Found out what is was, line in, in windows was way too high (3/4th)
Adjusted it a bit together with my mixer and works fine now !

thx for the help guys, was getting desperate. And I think I'll throw wavelab abroad.
Soundforge works properly now.

I use sound forge.. it's great.. take advantage of the "wavehammer" utility for compressing an entire track (to make it as loud as possible without distortion)
