How much money do you have to spend, I mean a CDN22 seems a bit too old, although I have never used one. If I were in your shoes, I would just wait and save... Im not telling you to save for a DND9000 but to save for something a bit more up-to-date. If you want a dual CD deck save for the lower end models of the Denon like the DN2600F or DND4000, they range between $500-600 new from store. Thing is you want to get something that you can use productively and learn on for alittle while and you can also sell when the time comes to upgrade.
I checked eBay just now:
Denon DN2600F sells for @ $400-450 (new)
Denon DND4000 sells for @ $450-500 (new) |

Ok, I just purchased a CDN22 MKIII about 2 months ago for £189.00 at djstore.co.uk. I wanted it for two primary reasons. Firstly, at the end of my gap year, I’ll be jetting off to uni and I want to take something with me so I can continue to mix, but at the same time, isn’t too expensive, so if it gets theived/damaged/broken etc, it’s not massive loss. And secondly, to expand the current setup I’ve got (Techs M3D & DJM600) to allow me to play my own productions, edits and mix tools in my sets. Plus it seems to me that with the more commercial trancey releases on CD, you get a lot better value for money compared on a mix to mix ratio, Positiva Remixed series is a good example.
Having now had 2 months to play around with it, here are my thoughts. All in all, it’s not too bad. Granted, I’ve played on much better CD decks, but for the price it perfectly fits my requirements. It was a doddle to set up, even if you are a n00b, you’ll have no problems. I’ve heard other people say that there is problems with the Numark range as a whole not liking CDR’s. My one plays CDR’s no problem. Though this possibly could be a issue that onsets with older, more used models, though I seem to remember on the box it had “CDR Playability” or something similar. The only problem I have with the unit is the pitch control. It’s +/- 12%, and only 6.5 Cm long! Compare this to the Technics +/- 8% @11 Cm and I think you can see that this causes a bit of a pain. Plus, the pitch only seems to register in increments of 0.1%, still if you’re an experienced mixer you can get by with out too many headaches, you just need to keep on your toes.
In conclusion, for a first time buy to get into the world of mixing, I think it’s a good solid purchase, depending of course on the prict you have to pay. Once again, I know there are better CD decks but for the price, it perfectly fits my requirements to a tee. Hope this info helps you.
