After having to format i want to keep my system nice and clean.

Im after freeware programs that are good, im looking for anti virus, pop up killers and also maybe a firewall.

I use AntiVir for my antivirus, this little bitch can mostly get rid of anything n even looks inside cab files. Takes about 30 minutes to scan thru my 80GB HDD, which is nearly full, so not bad i reckon.

Firewall, since im using XP im not gonna bother with that firewall protection that it has since i myself have tested it and doesn't seem to work very well.

Doesn't ZOneAlarm or sumthing like that have one?

Pop up killer, i want one running in the background, and that actually works n configurable, my last one didn't work properly, it killed my anti-leech.. lol.

Im basically looking for good stuff that doesn't hog up the resources, this is because i use this pc for prety much for everything, digital photos, movies n music.

Any help pplllllzzzz... hehe

Thanks

Zone alarm

Panicware Free Pop-Up Stopper

Don't know if there is any spyware in either of these. I know how free editions of software sometimes has spyware/ad-ware...

Ad-aware (spyware)
lavasoftusa.com

Google Toolbar + Pop-up blocker
google.com

or ZeroAds.. but it doesn't run in the background.

ZoneAlarm is a good firewall :)
i got pro off p2p :P

For pop up blocking you can try using Mozilla FireFox for a browser. Also using a browser other than IE will cut all of your other problems by half.

Check it out

My ZoneAlarm does all my pop-up blocking.... however, u might have to disable pop-up blocking when using anti-leach....

Ad-aware is my top pick for spyware....

Thanks TA, knew i could count on you...

Many thanks for the hints, will give them a go...

Is zone alarm good like in user friendly to setup? cause i hate portscanning to find whic ports are blocked and are used, say my ICQ don't work n all
Tranex02
ZoneAlarm is definitly user-friendly! :)
i personally think it's a must have.... although i'm not sure about that ICQ thing, but i think it will work just fine!!!

on another note.... i recently got a new drive, new memory, and did a clean install of XP.... my system ran pretty fast.... i did notice a *slight* difference in my speed, and internet speed after installing Norton AntiVirus, and ZoneAlarm.... but those are essentials... i just hope they come up with better upgrades that don't take up too much memory or slow down internet traffic...anyway... just wanted to share that.... ;)

best anti-pop software is No Ads (www.download.com) ... NEVER had a pop up since

Get Mozilla Firefox from Mozilla.org, it's a damn good browser, beats IE any day. It's got inbuilt pop-up blocking, tabled browsing, an inbuilt download manager, theme support, extension support, customizable toolbars and so on.

If you're looking for a decent freeware firewall, then Kerio Personal Firewall (www.kerio.com) is what I'd get, although Zone Alarm (www.zonelabs.com) might be best if you've never used a firewall before. As for spyware, Ad Aware (lavasoft.de), and Spybot Search & Destroy (http://security.kolla.de/) are the two programs to get.

Also take a look at open office (www.openoffice.org) if you'd like a decent freeware/open source office suite. Media Player Classic (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/v...yer_classic.cfm) is a must have if you're looking for a small, fast and free video player. Dbpoweramp (www.dbpoweramp.com) is a good freeware audio format converter, and AVG 6.0 is a decent freeware virus scanner.

I just use the google toolbar for a pop-up stopper
