Ok folks kind of a standard question from me but kinda curious anyways...
I'm looking to add another piece of kit to my setup and was thinking of Spectrasonics Atmosphere but wanted to know from you guys if it was worth it given my current set up? And perhaps if you had any other suggestions?
I use the following at the moment:
Fruity Loops 4.5 Highest version
FM7
Pro-53
Absynth
Z3TA+
BBE Sonic Maximizer
Steinberg Mastering Pack
I have a 2.6 AMD Athlon XP with 1G of memory. 400mhz DDR
Cheers

Good cpu specs for atmosphere, but, if your "Serious" about production i would consider start looking for non software solutions, effect proccessories, hard synths, speaker-monitors, sound card etc..
Really depends how far you wanna go with production.. atmosphere is nice though. |

Atmosphere is good for wavery atmospheric sounds. Huh, funny that. It doesn't use any CPU which is good, but it uses a fair bit of RAM. It has some great sounds in it, that's for sure, but maybe a sound card or monitors would be more important at this stage.
by the way, what's the BBE Sonic Maximiser like. Is it any better than the Steinberg/Spectral Design Spectraliser? |

Atmosphere has a ton of sounds in it, but you probably won't even touch 90% of them. I fell in love with it hearing demos on its website, but I have to admit most of the sounds are rather hard to fit into songs...imho. There are some great lead sounds as well as strings and a few basses, but the bulk of sounds are of the weird atmospheric and ambient variety and don't really fit anywhere. If I had to do it all over again, I'd have spent the money on a 106 or other "atmospheric" hard synth. Just my opinion though, I know some people love it. |

Should have mentioned that I also have it connected to an Allen and Heath Xone 464 and Alesis M1 Active Mk2 monitors. My Soundcard is a Soundblaster Platinum Live but I know that it's a piece of crap so any suggestions there?
Cheggy,
I have found that the BBE gives the sound an amazing boost but it is dependant on what you have done with the EQs before hand. I would swear by it but I may not be the most proffesional producer round here. So check if someone else with more experience perhaps agrees.

I would go for a high-end sequencer like Sonar 3.0 or Cubase SX 2.0 amd rewire all your softsynths into it - its a lot more versatile than FL. No reason to go into hardware if your software can do what you need. |

i would buy a new soundcard if i where you.. can't really recommend any thou since i'm not that much into soundcards.
the reason why is becaus you got a nice computer, got plenty of ram and the softsynth's you have is really nice...
have heard alot of nice stuff about atmosphere... but i would go for the soundcard..
*note to myself*
stop spending all money on clothe's and partying and buy a new soundcard... hehe
*note to myself*
btw.. who's gonna start the flaming of monkey mouse?? hahahaha ;)
no need to change sequencer at all if you like the one you have... |
