In Uganda, the rebel army know as the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) slaughtered 200 people in a refugee camp in northern Uganda. Through out the years the LRA leader Joseph Kony (who also claims to have spiritual powers) orders the raids of the villages. Every time a LRA raid is conducted, brutal torture and mass execution is done by LRA soldiers. During these raids, a majority of the children are kidnapped---the boys are brainwashed in order to be soldiers for the LRA and the girls are used as sex slaves. BBC did an interview of a 13 year old Ugandan boy whose family was burned alive by the LRA in his own house. After hearing his accounts, my heart melted and I thought I was going to burst into tears :(. I could feel this kids despair, his hopelessness.....:(...I felt this way mainly because I can relate to the degree of lost hope. Click the link to listen:

Fear not, for the UN is hard at work remedying the situation! Just as soon as they finish tackling the issue of a silly fence they'll get to the millions of Africans! |

Africa can't be solved because the only solutions to solve its problems are beyong the morally aprehensible scope of the western world.
Therefore instead, the west has decided to not deteriorate its own moraltiy to solve Africa's problems, but to wait till Africa grows a morality to solve its trouble for itself.
I don't know if I can agree with it or not, but I do know that much of the 'aid' the western world gives to Africa is counterproductive. Food shipments for instance are rerouted only to combatants, and prolongs the fight. Afterall, who's up for war when you haven't ate for a week? |
