Well the only interesting point that this article raises is the idea that the whole dj'ing thing is being overrated, and I totally agree with that. What does DJ do? (S)he plays records, mixes them together, at times plays with eq's or with the effects of the cdj/mixer (pioneer). While watching this DVD I noted Tiesto saying that playing the record is the same as playing the guitar. I don't agree with that. It takes waaaay more effort to learn how to play guitar and excell in that, than just mixing records.

It really depends on the DJ and how he/she wants to do with their time between mixing. Some DJs do a Jesus pose. Some smile and wave at the crowd. While others keep their head low and always tweak the sound or so some effect tricks, DJ tricks, or sampling trick. The latter can be equally as difficult to excel in.

also, let's not forget that using smaller text at the end of your post makes you the biggest fiend in the thread

Lay off. I was trying to be at least somewhat apologetic for my harsh tone, not arrogant.

When I saw whose website this was I was not surprised at all by what was said

This part makes no sense:

quote:
He is at least fifty feet away from them, surrounded by gigantic, electric light rods that jettison out from the DJ booth in every direction like a massive power conduit, as if to say that the universe truly does revolve around him.

Maybe because they are recording for a dvd, and wanted to keep the crowd away from the booth, to avoid any chance of his vinyl skipping from someone bumping the tables.

This guy is far too opinionated and doesn't realize this dvd was made for Tiesto fans, not just anybody. Obviously from reading his review, he is someone who doesn't like Tiesto in the first place, which means he shouldn't review this dvd anyway...
punchline
I really doubt that they put the DJ booth that far away in order to keep people from bumping it. The lightning rods are overboard just like a lot of the DVD. I used to like Tiesto too, until his productions started dropping in quality. He's to the point now where he could release 30 minutes of a ferret running around on production equipment, and people would still say it was the most amazing track they ever heard. I'm guessing thats what pisses Ishkur off too.

And about him reviewing the DVD. He said at the begining that he didn't want to review it but the production company sent him a free promo of the DVD to review anyway. He does write for a few publications aside from his website.

I don't mean to offend you, but do u actually know what it takes to play the guitar the way say, Ritchy Blackmore or Morrison or Jimmy Hendrix did? I can list many amazing guitar players, it's not the point. What kind of musical tallent they had ?
Well, of course, it's stupid to compare a DJ and a guitar player, those are two completely different things. Where as it's hard to deny the popularity of the electronic music now days, a dj is not more of a good psychologist than just a musician. DJ has to know which track to play when so that the crowd enjoys it an dances its ass off. That's why I would never put a DJ who plays the record, and some tallented piano player who plays jazz on the same scale.

I think this all depends on the person. I personally, don't like every mix or song Tiesto has done, and I also much prefer his older stuff. Some people might love everything he does and worship him like a god, but if he does a ty track or set, I'm not going to say it still was the coolest thing I'v ever heard. One example, I love Conjure Ones Tears From the Moon, but I hate Tiestos remix of it.
Like I said, I think it all depends on the fan.
