what type of ibook ( G3+ 12"/14"+Speed ? ) is it and what Os is it currently running ?
Check this LINK for more help on the upgrade.
You could also put the Os X Installation cd in the drive, startup the machine ( hold down the "C" key during bootup ), Formating options will appear, do as you need to do, install it! You should be able to format it right then; and ask it not to be dual boot capable ( cause you don't want os 9.XX duh :p ) |

Put in your boot cd/dvd, reboot... hold down the "C" key until you see the grey screen with the spinning gear, then you can let go of the "C" key. Wait until it loads, then go to the Installer menu, choose disk utility. Select the top item, which should be your Hard Drive (which should have one partition below it... usually named Macintosh HD). Once you have selected the Hard Drive you want to format, go to the "Erase" tab, enter in a name for the partition (or leave the default "untitled"), choose erase, and that will quick format and partition your drive.
Once that is done, you can continue the installation of OSX 10.3. via the wizard.
This is a clean install option with no OS9 support. If you are using classic applications, you will need to install the Classic Support. I've never done that though, so I am not 100% sure how to do that. Did your computer come with iLife '04? If not, you will need to install other options like iDVD which again I am not 100% sure how to do. I just do the clean install, then load all the software updates, then install iLife '04, software updates, etc.
Hope that helps?

Now that you're in for a bunch of fun :p
Mac ain't exactly like Winblows when you can go and get "educational" copies off any website or file sharing program :p
You might be better off finding someone who has an official version.... |

If I were you I don't think I'd bother with new hard drive these are hella expensive.. but hey it's your money :p
you don't really need tons to run the thing and you might want to consider an external firewire hd...
but that also depends on the use you wanna make of this ?
Finalstratch for example ? ;) ;) |
