is this about the end of the world again?

if so, and you believe the bible it says no one will know when the end will be. "i will come like a theif in the night" or something like that is a rough quote off the top of my head.

You mean an alignment of the planets? Guess what, that already happened (May 2000 I beleive). And just about ever crack pot out there was screaming that the end would come... guess what? It didn't.

Like I said in the previous thread, when someone shows me some evidence that ancient Mayans, with technology and an understanding of math, physics and astronomy that is utterly pathetic compared to what we posess today, might actually have a chance of discovering a world changing, galactic time shift, and pinpoint its occurance down to the day, thousands of years before it would happen, despite the fact our advanced civilization with its incredible technology and knowledge still hasn't yet seen this coming only 8 years before it happens, I will begin to beleive it. I don't doubt the Mayan's were incredible astronomers and mathematicians, but their knowledge and skill can't come close to what we have today.

Until then it's nothing more than another civilization and their myth. Read Joseph Campbell or something. The whole idea to Mayans behind 2012 is there will be a great change and a "rebirth." It also occurs on December 21: The Winter Solstice, when the days begin to get longer again. There are many civilizations and religions that celebrate Winter Solstice as a time of rebirth and renewal. The Romans celebrated it as Saturnalia, during which they would decorate their homes with evergreen trees, hang bright lamps everywhere, exchange gifts, and just otherwise celebrate and be happy. Sound familiar? This was later turned into Christmas by Pope Julius I around 400 AD.

There are plenty more. Scandanavian Pagans would burn yule logs on the solstice, beleiving their magical properties would make the sun shine longer and brighter. Norse mythology tells of how Loki, god of evil made an arrow out of mistletoe for Hoder, god of winter, who then killed Balder, god of summer. Balder's mother Frigga then restored her dead son, and was so happy she cried tears which then became berries on the Mistletoe, and kissed everyone who passed under the branch (thats familiar isn't it?). In Ancient Greece, the Winter Solstice ritual was Lenaea. A man representing the harvest god Dionysos was killed and eaten by a gang of women. Later in the day, Dionysos would be reborn as a baby (notice "rebirth" is a very common theme throughout all these solstice myths).

Incas had the festival of Inti Raymi, celebrating the Sun and the god of the Sun, Wiracocha. Islam has Ramadan. Jews have Hanukkah. The list goes on and on.

The Mayans are no different. Their oldest city, Uaxactun, is built specifically around solstices. The right most temple of the city is aligned so that the Winter Solstice sunrise will rise right above its corner. The left most temple is aligned for the Summer Solstice sunrise. The middle temple is aligned to the equinox. This is just one example of how seriously Mayans took their solstices.

Theres also a lot of info floating around about how 2012 is the year of the end of some long cycle in the Mayan Long Count of 13, so it would obviously have some spirtual significance to them. (I don't know exactly how it works so google for it if your interested).

Anyways if you're really freaked out about this, dont worry. The Maya aren't predicting the end of the world, simply the end of time as we know it, in which there would be no pain or suffering. Humans would simply evolve consciously, transcend out of the third dimension and into higher dimensions. Doesn't sound like a terrible deal to me, but I ain't buying it yet :D

oh, right. Sorry. Let me try and help.

*ahem*

OH NO WE ARE ALL DOOMED! THE WORLD WILL COME TO A TERRIBLE END, NOTHING WILL SURVIVE! AIEEEEEE!

the mayans had alot of predictions and were amazing astronomers.

In 2012 life on this earth will come to an end and a new one will begin.

Creepy.

They also knew where all the planets were and they're paths across the universe. All the planets to. Now remember these guys didn't even have any instruments to do this with.

They also said there were two more planets in our system that we still haven't found. One out past pluto and one even closer to the sun than Mercury. Both of these are highly suspected to exist.

the first link on that is all about how in 2000 a magnetic pole shift started that will be complete in 2012.

I don't doubt their amazing abilities as astronomers, but I still beleive they still can't come close to ours. And you speak as if they were the only ancient civilization to have knowledge of the stars. What about the Greeks? Hipparchus Estimated the distance to the moon with incredible accuracy over 2000 years ago. Or how about the Egyptians? In the 3rd century BC, Eratosthenes measured the circumference and the radius of the Earth and was off by only a few percent.

Two other planets? One past pluto and one before Mercury? You'd think these would have been found by now, or at least there would be mounting evidence for them. Extra planets would tug on other planets with their gravity (this is how either Uranus or Neptune were discovered, if not both of them). The planets are exactly where we expect them to be. We've sent probes millions of miles to these planets and they've arrived exactly where they should be. I don't see how these two planets are "highly suspected to exist," especially since I've never heard a single thing about them before now (except for crackpot theories about Niburu which we already know are bunk). I'd like to see some serious evidence.

A pole shift that started in 2000, and will be complete in 2012? That means we're already 1/3 done with it. You would think there would be some SERIOUSLY noticible effects from this incredibly quick shift? Never mind that 12 years is less than a geological nano second. It would be like a healthy person growing a tumor and dying within the span of 2 seconds. By the way, whoever wrote that website you're talking about (the first result from your google search) is smoking some seriously spectacular crack. "Timecraft Earth will begin its journey into the 4th dimension in 2013?" Riiiiiiiiiiiight........

Something else I was thinking about while I was eating, you're talking as if this pass through the "galactic center" was a unique event, when in fact it happens every 26,000 years. So, on a cosmic scale of things, its about as common and frequent as the planet spinning, or circling the sun every year. The Earth alone has done so 153,846 times. If this were truly a quantum-physical changing event every time it happened, then there wouldn't be a lot of life here on Earth (it wouldn't even have had the chance to evolve). Hell, Homo Sapiens have been around for 5 of these passes. There is nothing in our fossil or geological record to indicate cataclysmic events every 26,000 years.

Try arguging your case with some credible evidence from a credible source backing it.

did the mayans by any chance say when i was gonna win the lottery? now that is something id like to read about.
