Whitelabel Issues

| Yeah, another thread on these things. Okay, so I have two M3Ds and a pair of Shure Whitelabel needles. Now, I may just be being picky here but for some reason, these things definately aren't holding the record groove as well as they should. I have my height setting on 2mm, tracking force on 3g, stylus overhang in the middle, and 0 anti-skate. The counterweight is properly calibrated (I did a search before posting), so rather than 'did you do this etc, etc', if someone could post their settings that work, that would be really great. I'm able to backcue fairly well but when I push the record forward, the needle skips out of the groove. So post your settings so I can try them out please. |

if they are brand new they may need broken in.
all stylus need broken in to work to full effect. |

my settings are: 0.5g, 2.0mm, 2.0 antiskate
supposedly, antiskate is supposed to be the same as height, but i really wouldnt know.
I had problems with a whitelabel needle because it was skippy when cueing and got it exchanged. I suggest that if you still have problems get it exchanged. Ive heard of others having these problems as well, may be some needles are defective, who knows. |

I always thought it was supposed to be the same as the weight. Anyway, not having antiskate on shouldn't make anything skip, as I don't use antiskate and everythings fine. Tablists stay away from it, and they sure as hell don't skip. |

Turn your antiskating off. Mine are set at 2mm height with 2.5 gr and they only skip very rarely on a fast backspin.
Also, make sure you're balancing your tonearm without the counterweight (which you screw on the back of the tonearm). I was doing it and had to set tracking weight at 3gr. |

| I just got a pair myself, and they skipped on me as well at first, when my tracking was at 2.5...change your tracking force to 1.5g, 0 anti-skate with Whitelabels, 2-2.5 height, and that corrected the skipping issues for me. |

| They're still skipping all over the place, the only settings I can make them work at are 3.5g of tracking, 0mm height, and 3 anti-skate. |

| Ok, well I'm sure you have checked or tried different settings, so only thing I have left for you is to make sure the table is level, and try different vinyl. Also, swap carts on the decks, see what happens if only one is skipping. For some odd reason, my skipping went away when I took away weight, now I can't get them to skip. Yes they will need a little time to break in, but 3.5g is high for these carts...Dumb suggestion but make sure you have the tonearm balanced correctly. Hope you find the right settings that work for ya, they really are bad ass carts :toocool: :toocool: |

| I bought a set a couple and tried them with the "S" arms on my ttx1's they jumped all over the place any time I tried to back cue on just normal bass, heavy deep bass actually made it jump off the vinyl. Not cool I was thinking, I just spent all this money on these and they don't work. So then I thought I'll give the straight arms a try. I put on the straight arms balanced them and set the weights on three. Pretty normal. THESE THINGS ARE AMAZING. I hear bass now on vinyl that I've never heard on a cd. It was like they were glued to the vinyl. I even hit my decks to see if they would skip. Nothing. As long as you have or are using straight arms on your decks. |

Antiskate should always be at zero, right (wondering if NEM will answer this)? I mean, think about it, when you set your anti-skate to 3 what happens?
The tonearm will come flying back.
Setting your anti-skate to 3 should only be used if your needles are terribly bad and need replacing and you just gotta spin that evening.
It'll kill your records faster...
As for your question, I don't mean to assume things, but do you know how to balance your needles?
I'm guessing that perhaps you should either lower/raise your tonearm height and perhaps add more weight via counterweight/etc.
IMO, I think it's absolutely absurd to have your anti-skate set to 3. Never in my 4 years of spinning have I ever needed to set my anti-skate above zero.
And that's the thing with "integrated" type styli...sometimes the trackin' is a b!tch. That's why I stick to OMs, 'cuz I always welcome a little weight (thanks the brilliant peeps at TECHNICS for m3d headshells). |
