Bertuzzi should be out for at least a year. period point blank-

broken neck and people think its an uncalled for punishment? uhh ok. fighting is part of hockey, but smashing someones face into the ice and then jumping on him is not a fair deal for Naslund being taken out of 3 games!

The closest parallel I can see to the Bertuzzi incident is Matt Johnson's sucker punching of Jeff Beukeboom a few years back. Beukeboom had to retire as a result of this incident and Johnson got 12 or 13 games I think.

I'm sure everyone remembers the McSorley/Brashear incident where McSorley got 23 games and probation. I don't think this should at all influence the decision since a stick was involved in this case.

Based on that, I would expect that Bertuzzi would get something similar to Johnson. There is a chance that the league could make an example of Bert in which case I think they would sit him out a few playoff games as well. I wouldn't be surprised at the latter seeing as how this is giving the NHL such bad publicity.

I'll paraphrase a quote I heard today on TV (I can't remember who said it):

"Steve Moore had it coming to him, but he certainly didn't deserve what he got."

Let's see here, I'm Canadian, grew up playing the game and what bertuzzi did was just inexcusable (no matter if it was to get back at a guy who cleaned the lead scorer out for 3 games). He sucker punched the guy from behind with the glove on, he did not have the puck then throws him to the ice and lands on the kid's neck and he shattered two vertebres. Throw the ing book at bertuzzi, it was a disgraceful incident and he needs to get at least 8 games for that pile of crap.

I totally agree with you, except from one thing. Eight games? Damnit - this kind of does NOT belong inside a hockey rink. He should be suspended for the rest of the season. This was almost worse than what McSorley did two years ago. I say suspend Bertuzzi for the rest of the season. It's as simple as that - a couple of games of suspention and a fine of a couple of thousand bucks won't do any good. Fine these kind of incidents with a couple of hundred thousand dollars instead, or even more - and longer suspentions - that's the only way to get rid of this bull from the game.

It should be a suspension for the rest of the Canucks season at minimum. Getting revenge for outing the leading scorer on your team for 3 games is one thing (even though Naslund said it was a fair hit), but taking it that far is reason enough to ban him from the league completely. If they make an example of someone, not just a slap on the wrist, a few games suspension and a fine, this cheap shot will stop happening.

Stupid, stupid ing move by Bertuzzi. Not only was it for a bull cause, but he completely ed his team's playoff run as well, no one's gonna replace his presence:rolleyes: I wanted to see Vancouver go far this year, too...

I will say first off that I am biast because I am a big Bertuzzi fan but here it goes...

Does anyone think that if Moore wasn't knocked out by that punch would of really been that bad? Yes it was uncalled for but I don't think it is the worst thing ever like some people make it out to be. I mean people get punched all the time in hockey and sure this was a sucker punch but Bert was just trying to provoke a fight.

If you watch the footage and I have seen it many times, Moore was clearly out cold after the punch and before he hit the ice. Bertuzzi may have jumped him but he had no idea Moore was out cold. He was probably expecting Moore to start throwing fists back at him and he wanted to take him to the ice before he could get a big swing back.

I think Bert should get 15 games. Bert wanted Moore to pay for what he did to Naslund but I really don't belive he wanted to break Moore's neck. Yes that is no excuse but Moore was injured from a punch with a glove on, not a stick. If he wasn't knocked out from the punch he would have never smashed his face in the ice.

Also the other Colorado jumping on Bert while he was on Moore couldn't of helped very much.

i was a bertuzzi fan but now he is in the hall of lame

yes you want to get back someone for a clean hit on your leading scorer. First of all...poor naslund should not have had his head down...anytime you do that in hockey....WHAM!...so i have no sympathy for the pansy swede...if you can't play the game and protect yourself....get the out. Now we knew bertuzzi would get pay back but that's lame for sucker punching a guy who is skating up the ice without the puck then you land on his neck. I don't care what getting back someone is but when you pull a stunt like that...it's cold and gutless...i mean take it to his face and see what happens..no he had to hit him from behind. Bertuzzi deserves minimum 20 games, I'd give him a year suspension for that. Bertuzzi will face the full music when team canada's world cup team is together, when he has to see sakic, kariya, blake and tanguay in the locker room.

you said it, *sucker* punch, cowardly and in open ice when the Canucks were getting blown out and when Moore wasnt involved in puck play. plus he had ALREADY been involved in a fight that game - Naslund came back, why was further retaliation necessary?

yeah, he was knocked out cold. it was obvious, especially when he fell -on his face- after getting hit without seeing it coming. hits like that are illegal in BOXING, much less hockey. do you really think he even needed to jump on him after seeing that? or was he so blinded by rage that he couldnt have? if thats the case he deserves one year like McSorely.

He did break his neck though, and that plays into it. Crawford is notorious for 'arranging' these questionable retorts: remember Draper/Lemieux? Hell Crawford was laughing afterward! And again, he had already been involved in an altercation in the first period...

Perhaps he was trying to get Bertuzzi off an obviously injured player?!

im sorry, if people cannot be expected to act this way walking down the street? why should they get away with it in hockey?

Nice comment about Naslund pal

Everytime I see that hit on Naslund it looks like more of a cheap shot. He deliberately laid into Naslund, if you can't see that you're just dumb. Naslund is a class act, so please stfu.

I stopped watching regular season hockey years ago mainly cause its like I'm seeing a fight and a hockey game breaks out.The NHL needs to do something about all this fighting crap.Stuff like bertuzzis cheap shot isnt new in the NHL but I think this might finally be the last straw.Bertuzzi should be suspended for a year and I was thinking imagine if some guy walked up to you from behind and punched you to the ground breaking your neck, that guy would go to jail, why in the hell will this hockey player be treated differently.
jesten
Yes it was an undeserved cheap shot but I still don't think it is as bad as the McSorely/Brashear incident. Call me what you want. I think it is bad but not as bad as everybody is making it out to be. If it was a stick then I would be flaming Bert with the rest of you.

anthony_campo69
That Mcsorley/Brasher incident was totally worse, Mcsorley spit on him after he was down. Bertuzzi should without a doubt be back next season

this is what i posted in the ontario thread any comments??

lemme ask y'all this, what gives hockey players the right to fight and not me against my enemy??? Why because its part of a sport, maybe i should create a sport called *whatever any name*!! Can't i use this argument in court?? I get charged for self defense or get charged for not controlling my anger yet the nhl lets fighting stand???

Why apologize for what u did, if u did not intend on hurting him that bad, then why did u sucker punch him??? If i wanted to get you, why would i end up apologizing for what i wanted to do??

Too much contradiction IMO...

so fighting is a part of life what's the difference when I lose my composure/patience and a hockey player does??

its the defensive style of play that has people not drwan to the nhl in the south, but do u really want to win fans with something that isn't even part of the skill portion of the sport like fighting???

Yes it draws a little more audience but if the product has no substance it won't be long untill people just flip the channels waiting for hockey fights, or just watching them duke it out on the highlights... Ticket sales won't go up just cause you will expect one or two brawls a game!
