TA is giving me spyware!!!!

You know the Ultra banner that usually runs on the top of TA? Well occasionally it doesn't appear, and it seems whenever that happens, I get some spyware from TA.
A million little "warning" windows pop up saying "done" or "dwn." I then go run Ad-Aware, and sure enough it detects some spyware called a Data Miner. I know it comes from TA because I can goto millions of other websites and I'm fine, but the minute I come here, those stupid windows start popping up again. I can delete the spyware and I will be fine, but as soon as I re-visit TA, it comes back.
WTF!? :whip: :whip: :whip:

data miners are generally tracking cookies, nothing to worry about. its regkeys and stuff that are problematic. nevertheless, it's not what you would expect tbh.

ill find out more when i have time

You must be using Internet Explorer.

Switch to Mozilla Firefox.

You can't surf without getting some kind of dataminer or other junk. I mean, if you even visit the Microsoft site for an update you get them as well. Just run Ad-aware to delete most of the junk. Most are generally inocuous.

Cookies

In order to prevent multiple pop-up advertisements from being displayed to you while surfing on TranceAddict.com a cookie is set allowing us to know that you have already seen a popup and won't have to deal with more of them when moving throughout the site.

Any other cookies you receive are from advertisers - if you wish to block those you can adjust your IE settings accordingly - because it is not just TA that does this, all sites that have advertising will require some form of cookie... It's nothing to be paranoid about, it is not spyware - that term is overused.

I know about cookies and what they are and what they do. But I have never had cookies create warning windows (not pop-up internet adds, but one of those little Windows warning boxes that make that "dink" noise when they appear). I think this is something else...
It annoys the piss out of me, b/c a million of them pop up when Im trying to type something. This has never happened to me with any other website I've visited, only here.

Beema, which OS are you running? I assume it's a Windows OS so get into your device manager (right click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'). Once you've opened that locate 'Services and Applications' (should be on the bottom of the list on the left), expand the list and select 'Services'. There should be a list of things that appeared on the right side now, look for 'Messenger'.

Once you've located the Messenger right click on it and goto properties. In the properties you should see 'Startup Type' with a drop box next to it. Click the drop box and select disabled. Hit apply then ok and reboot.

Hopefully that will help.;)
