How many people here have been into trance for awhile? And how many listen to tunes that have been around for years and appreciate what they are about? And how many have annoying arses saying that "the production skills aren't that good" and then go on to really rate PvD or something? I'm not slating PvD but..... Foooking 'ell!!!! It's like "this is where it came from and it was so ahead of it's time!!!". It's why I bang on about EVE records to anyone who will listen. Get hold of EVE12 and tell me that wasn't ahead of it's time? 1995 for that tune???????
I'm listening to DJ Bassett - Looped Bypass - right now - a class tune for the time it was written and I'm a big fan of earlier trance but when you get someone who doesn't appreciate that and just rates one tune against another without considering the time it was written and just doesn't damn well get it, what do you do?????? When they just consider the latest tunes and have no "heart" for the music itself? Have you met someone like that??
I know this sounds pretentious but what can I say? Trance once meant something to me, it really did, and now, well, it still does but it's such a search for it. Man, I sound so pretentious I know, but do you know what I mean? You can still find mint tunes and there are still mint producers (in fact, there is loads of mint producers nowadays, more than ever and I hope one day to be one of them) but there is so much polished professionalism, so much knowing what works that I just hate it. Don't get me wrong, I want to know that stuff cos I don't, but I just hate the way a unique style of music has become bread and butter. Long live the new wave of techno-trance, Randy Katana kicks ass. I long for the day of something new, and may it be found, I hope our scene continues for years to come...............
Like it says on the tin........... a rant!!!! |

Increased knowledge can also mean decreased enjoyment.
Maybe you need to do something different to make it fresh once again... |

Just wish I knew what Spec.....
Man, there are people on here old enough to be my grandad, it's just....... it gets a bit samey when you hear the same old damn chord sequences and what's worse, you find yourself coming up with them too!!!!!!!!!!!! I used to long to write trance to express something new, and now, all I want to do is emulate some mo'fo' who isn't half the patch on those who originally started things off anyway......
Just a bit sick of it all, that's all really............ Thankful that I've read posts from others who've felt like this too.......
Just got hold of DJ Kinetix - Elysium tho' this very second, so my face is smilin'!!!!!!
EDIT: You may be right dude. Maybe I'm just trying too hard. Thanks for replying by the way. |

Every thought about chucking an ad up on a billboard or noticeboard somewhere to teach some dj lessons? I'm new, not sure how good you are.
Not for the money, you may make a little, but for the freshness factor.
People that know alot about something tend to be cynical, its our human nature for some reason, but one thing is for sure, possibilities are endless in the music world.
I had the same thing happen with going to raves. I used to love it, but then I started complaining about it getting too commercial, not enough variety, sick ot it, etc etc, so I just stopped going and picked a new place to have fun. |

Well, if I had connections, experience of playing out etc. then maybe, but nope, just a lover of music with no real playing out experience, though this summer I am pushing myself like mad to get out there, cos I know I've got the old school tunes to do it with - that's it about our game, it's the tunes not the DJ, we're just the facilitators of a mint selection of tunes IMHO.
I still think M-Zone is the best UK DJ even though his mixing has always been universally recognized as sh***. He plays the mint tunes and gets out the way - what a DJ always should do. |

Nah, I'm still buying new stuff too, I do like new stuff, just sometimes.....
Ah whatever, it's a forum and if you can't shoot your opinion off around other like minded people then what's the point?
Not like I can talk to people at work about it and get a meaningful response......
But I do love trance, but c'mon, you gotta admit, sometimes it can seem a bit samey. Just heard a mint set on TranceSphere that opened my mind tho', maybe it's just me not listening to the right DJ's/tunes..... That's the point though innit? Letting others show you where to go next to get that inspiration when you're a bit dry. |

| Let the noobs be noobs. Why even pay any attention to them? Listen to what you like, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. |

I think I know what you mean....I got so heavily into the whole EDM thing and became so demanding of it, that I started going to gigs and instead of going there with the simple thought of trying to enjoy the music, I found myself more worried about the DJ playing only tracks I like, making perfect transitions, etc....to the point where I found myself not liking gigs more often than not...
This seems to be a theme (along with simply listening to tracks) that I see a lot of people here falling into...and it's noticeably effecting more of the long time tranceaddicts than the new ones. Just watch someone who comes on as a new user and gets addicted to the board..as he or she starts communicating and gets into discussions analyzing tracks, gigs, DJs, etc and becoming more knowledgeable about the scene, you will notice they slowly become more jaded/critical of everything...
With that... in the past four or five months I've made the effort to try to get out of this theme/trap....I still get trapped in it from time to time, but for the most part I don't and I am back to really enjoying my nights out at clubs listening to some great tunes and not minding inperfect beatmatching here and there...so as long as it isn't so bad it makes everyone go, "WTF was that?"...I don't criticize a DJ because every track isn't one that I necessarily like....I go with a positive attitude and a positive vibe and am once again really enjoying the nights I go out. |
