Waterloo - Toronto: wicked 401 race!

I needed to pay a brief visit to some people in Waterloo today, so i popped Armin's 7-hour Club Eau set into the deck and set out. Made it there in just under an hour, which was pretty sweet considering Yahoo Maps said it's take around 1.5.

It was my first time in Waterloo and one thing that really stood out is that it's got some of the friendliest people i've ever seen! I literally saw more smiles there today than i have here in the last week. Strangers strike up conversations with eachother and crack random jokes!

The trip home was an absolute blast! I was doing around 150 in the left lane and this black Honda sided with me in the lane to the right. I nod. He nods. We floor it. We must have been doing 170-180 for a good 15 minutes before it was over.

When he had to exit, he sided with me again and we gave eachother a thumbs up for a wicked race. Going back to what i said earlier, it was really cool of Waterloo people to free up the two left lanes for us. I was kinda surprised, as drivers in Toronto are usually dicks. Instead, everyone here just switched to other lanes when they saw us coming.

P.S. And if you thought that was a little extreme, we actually ran into someone who left us in the dust. Some guy in a white musclecar passed as at 220-230 or so. Goddamn, how is he still alive?!

Well what do you want them to do, stay in their lanes and risk getting backended by a couple nuts in ricers?

No offense.

Must have been fun though.

I'm sorry but you're a jackass. I'll be the first to admit that I speed now and then when I must but I don't drive down the highway for a good 15 minutes at 170-180. That was very irresponsible of you and now you come on here and almost brag about it? Shame on you! Trying to make what you did not seems as bad by saying someone passed you at 230 is completely irrelevant. Don’t drive like a moron and put other peoples’ lives in danger. That could be my family out there that you accidentally hit while traveling at 170 and what are you going to do if they die? Can you bring them back? Something to think about the next time you feel like pressing down too hard on the gas pedal.

Speed doesn't cause accidents. Stupidity causes accidents. If speed caused accidents, Italians would be extinct by now with their 170km/hr freeways! And what about the Germans?!

Most accidents are caused by people talking on the phone, falling asleep, driving drunk, watching ing birds intstead of cars, driving to aggressively and unpredictably and so on.

It's not like i was racing through a school street with my eyes closed! If you're into sports, you know what absolute focus is. Imagine driving like that.

I'm aware of every vehicle around me, their level of aggressiveness, their speed and barring unforceen circumstances, where they'll be seconds from now. Even so, i keep enough distance to avoid a crash even if the car in front of me literally stops dead in it's tracks.

Roads in Canada are not made for the 170 km/h races...

On the other note, I don't like Waterloo. May be my perception of K-W is biased b/c I only go to university here, and go out mostly in TO ... But there is nothing to do here at all, except for drinking and studying ; ) Well, I also discovered a good movie rental place that has all the rare movies, so it's something else to do here on the weekend - watch foriegn movies. But that's pretty much it. I try to go to TO whenever I have a chance.
And people are generally nicer in the smaller towns than in the big cities:)

I have no complaints about the newer freeways. Giant concrete medians kick ass, as do wide left shoulders. Going in a straight line has never been this fun ;)

Heh. Gen-X is the good stuff.

I can't stand Toronto anymore. Too big. Too loud. Too much traffic. Too many people lacking manners.

Werd.

You'll learn your lesson one day, and it will probably be at the expense of someone else's safety.

i'm not the biggest fan of k/w either...
i don't exactly think the people are that friendly... i'm thinking if anything everyone is excited about the good weather we've been having and this is why they appear friendly :D

i couldn't agree more... i love toronto's night life... although i wouldn't be able to live there.

as for the speeding... i do it all the time... usually when i make a trip out to toronto or london... my average speed is about 140/150... and i don't drive anything close to a sports car... i don't think doing 20 km/hr more than that is such a big deal... maybe if the weather was absolute ... like it was raining or snowing and the visability was ... but thats not the case... i don't think i'm putting anyone's life at risk...
in the end the person speeding is putting there wallet at risk... i wouldn't want to see a ticket for going 70 over.

I came to TO from Moscow that is at lest twice as big. And there is no traffic in TO! :) Even in rush hour you don't have to stand for hours anywhere unless an accident happened or if u're on 401. About lacking manners, u shoul try Moscow subway:D People will be pushing u all the time and this will be YOUR fault :haha:

I was actually quite surprised with TO downtown when I just came, I was so used to 10 lanes streets in the center of Moscow, that all those towers on two lane King street looked really weird to me.

Well, to each their own I guess ;)
