| hey, well im coming up to my licence (im 17) and im looking to buy a car soon nothing too spiffy id rather save it, but im willing to spend enough for a car that does the job.... so anyway i really want a good stereo for it because stereos you can change regardless the car and i was looking aound the other day and was just wondering what you guys reccommend i have arolund 600 bucks (australian dollars) that i wanna spend on a stereo and i was thinking maybe the 400 dollar (i think the model is 570X) sony Xplode deck and maybe 2 3way 6x9 inchs for the back and 2 6inches in the front which will be at 50 watts each from the deck... but whats your opinion on this does anyone have any reccommendations or no of any better head units i could get (speakers are pretty much all round the same) thanx! |

| try 2 stay away from sony car audio - its crap. sony makes good home audio and thats it if u want good car audio head unit stick with kenwood or pioneer m8! |

ya, they're pretty expensive here :p:p:p
i have a few friends with sony head units & no problems (well, one had a problem with the dial or something)...tho none of them have sony speakers, i hear they aren't as good as most others
my car radio is dying, and the speakers were killed a long time ago...so i thought i'd spend some dosh on a nice setup, nothing like competition grade, but something that will lessen the long drives...or enhance them :):):)
i think $600 isn't gonna get u much...maybe get a good head unit and upgrade other parts later...i had a look around and i think it's gonna be about $2000-$2500 for a complete system :(:(:(
...but i did find this little beautie :):):)

...only problem is i can't find anyone in australia who's selling the damn thing :(:(:( |

ya it looks sweet!!! eh DJAhmet :D:D:D
i've found the cd version around $1200...but i'm after the md version 'cos i'd rather have cheap $4 minidiscs scratched/chucked/stolen in the car rather than my cd's :) |

Yeah MD's kick ass, u can record your mix's onto it, then listen to it in your car, without having to Burn CD or listen to crappy tape with Hissing in it... so yeah, if u can get cheap hot one let me know, ehehhehe :D

| yeh its funny you should say thatthanx, i was thinking i could go with a pioneer deck and stuff i have heard sony suck in some cases too and i do know who has a pioneer set up and its really nice at the moment though im not gonna go for a amp or subbies yet im just focussed on 6x9s (they sound sweet in a mates car) an da nice unit but you reckon pioneer? cause im thinking there a sure thing seem nice |

| Get a Pioneer head unit....excellent sound and feature's I've had one for the last two years and I've been sooo happy with the thing..If you don't have alot of money you should let your head unit run your 6*9's and invest in an amp to run your 6's and a sub...Def get a sub cause for the amount of bass most of us like to run it could ruin a set of speakers very quickly. This way your sub handles all the bass and your other speakers run your mids and high's ........ |

it's all about the kenwood...
i've had and used kenwood since the dawn of time in both my house and cars...
it's never let me down and i will never stray from it |

Fraggle, the head unit in the pic u posted is an interesting machine, the whole area u see is a completely flat black screen, which shows details about tracks, radio, time etc.But at the push of a button the whole thing mechanicaly rotates to reveal a whole new side of silver metal and neon blue buttons. But thats all that head unit has going for it.In my car i have the following layout:
Head unit:Alpine head unit (Cant remember model name) With 12 disc autochanger
Eq:Pioneer deq-9200 Digital signal processor (Dsp)
Amps:2 pioneer prs-x340 (720 watts each!)
Subs:2 vibe 12 inch subs in sealed enclousures with thier own amplifiers and crossover networks.2 pioneer ts-w1200f 3ocm sized with bass bullets.
mids:4 kenwood dual mag speakers built into my dashboard.4 ts-a2065 mids by pioneer built into each door.
Tweeters:4 pioneer ts-t23,one in each corner of interiour.
Rear shelf:2 Pioneer ts-a6987 6x9 speakers @ 260 watts each.
And im now looking at getting an alpine dvd/satnav/ps2 package.
Please note that my install took me around 3 years to construct and many hours of construction by me in my garage, but when ya crank it up,u and everybody within 6 miles knows its worth it ;-)
So id say get yourself the best alpine head unit u can afford, and just work yer way up! |

my recommendation is:
pioneer head unit
alpine speakers
alpine or clarion amplifiers
will make a very good system :)
my system currently consists of a pioneer dex-p1r head unit ($900 msrp baby :)), alpine mrv-f307 amp (4x90w), clarion dpx1000.2 (2x500w), 2 alpine 12" dvc subs in a q-logic bandpass box
that in pounds :)
cant wait to get my new car so i can put some nice alpine speakers in |
