ok, i have been spinning for around 8 month (trance), i have learned so quick , i can beat match and get the brakes ( timing ) correct all the time, but recently we launched a party and i was so tense whilst mixing , i wasnt ing up the mixes, in fact i was at best but i could not relax and enjoy untill around 6 mixes, it was so strange and has never really happend before, there was around 60 in the party and i was so nervous and tense , is this norm because i hope next party i dont get this feeling again, its not to good..... any good advice on anyone with past experience like this

Hehe, I've tried smoking, it usually confuses the hell outta me, and I'd rather go eat some chips.
Alcohol gets me into it, and I mix much better, because it loosens me up. |

it's quite normal, I guess. I was so nervous the first couple of times I played, I was shaking so badly that I could hardly set the needle on the record:eek:! But it goes away. You will only get it on special occasions, like: first time in front of 1,000 people or first time in front of 10,000 people.
Even the biggest have problems like that. Gary D had to throw up just before his Mayday set...so don't worry, you'll get used to it. And YES, alcohol might help (but don't overdo it;)) |

when people pay good $ to see you spin, YES there is such thing!
I hate spending 15 $ to get in and then see some f**ked up guy spinning worse than my mother cause he's had too many shots of Jagermeister |

try meditating... when you're ready for mixing, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and just loosen up...... and then focus on your mix.
or, before the party starts (after you finished building up the set), close your eyes, relax, and let your mind drift away......
some of you guy probably think it's bull, but it's not. it works for me every time I'm nervous..... |

oh yea...i've been spinning for around five months and just saturday i played at one of my friends' house parties...me, my friend who's had his decks for about a month, and a guy who was quite, quite good. needless to say, going on after him was a bit intimidating, and i was a little nervous...but after a few tracks i hit 'the zone' and just went off. it felt really good to see my friend who dances like theres no tomorrow at raves just go off with me behind the decks...an amazing feeling to drop a track everyone knows and loves and see everyone's faces...i don't really have any advice for ya, just to let you know your not alone =)

great thead. :D
only party ive spun so far was a bday party ,like 40 ppl but none dancing, how dumb... about half the ppl liked the music, but anyways i wasnt really nervous..
so i only trainwrecked briefly, like once, in about 4-5 hrs of spinning (all my records, haaha)
i cant remember how tight the mixes were, but they sounded ok.. |

i remember hearing about when fergie goot so ed out of his face he couldn't even stand and jules had to take over his set. i don't think i'd have been happy if i was there.
ive had this a few times, spun at freinds parties and it is so much harder than when you mix in your bedroom. i actually agree with wot hypersonic said, if you just calm down, relax and concentrate, you'll do fine, even forget that the people are there for the first few mixes to encourage yourself (don't forget that they are there for the whole set though, crowd interaction is important in my opinion)
