| Hey just figured I would post because I'll probably be living in Ann Arbor next fall.. wanted to see how many other U of M students are into trance. I was just up visiting this weekend and I was walking down the street right off campus and i see NECTO and I was thinking holy right down the road from my future dorm?!?! Wow that will be sweet. Anyways, haven't sent my enrollment deposit yet though i probably will... do you all like it there at U of Mich? Just lookin for a little more input before I decide on a college. Thanks! |

| There are a bunch of U of M students into trance! Theres probably 5-10 people on tranceaddict that I know of at least that go here. Its a great school and having the Necto a block from campus doesnt hurt either. Have you ever been to Necto before? Check out the detroit events thread and you'll find the upcoming lineup, pvd and armin are just a couple. I love U of M and ann arbor is definately a great place to live. Hope this helps your decision |

i wouldnt say that trance should be your deciding situation for whether or not to come to a2. things are always getting better for trance and EDM here - tho techno will never go away here if thats your cup of tea.
personally i would judge how important having a UM degree is to you. if something offered here is better than not seeing the sun for most of the year - then this is the place for you.
on a side note i talked to someone coming from MN a few years ago and he decided otherwise. its really all about you and what you want from the education, the trance is fine

U of M is the best school in the midwest, hands down. Thats why you should come here next year.
The scene is okay; Necto is pulling some amazing names, but the best thing about Ann Arbor is that its only a 4 hour drive to Toronto. |

MI is a bit better than Chi as most events are 18+ rather than 21 only - fewer big events, and clubs still close ~2ish. CA is 19 for drinking too, which is nice as well.
if you are going to come here hopefully youll find someone with a car, and and ID never hurts. necto treats you like sometimes if you are hanging with underagers and 21

| cool.. thanks guys sounds good.. and no I wouldn't just base my decision on trance lol, I would go for the great engineering school and I really like the setting/atmosphere of the school, sports, location, etc. Yeah I was impressed with the schedualed events coming up at necto! Do students go into detroit or canada a lot to party and such? |

i would say that for your first couple years youll go to Canada off and on. some people go more than others, and as has been mentioned TO isnt too far away, tho i have never been sadly. but i have heard from experience that places like System Soundbar can end up being overcrowded sausage-fests from some people that have made the trip. beyond the necto there is Bleu, and several other clubs or venues in Detroit that host events.
pretty much all youll ever need to know is here: www.detroitclubscene.com

yeah the engineering school is consistently ranked in the top 5 in the country, with individual programs even higher such as environmental and nuclear. north campus is great for studying, but not much else; try to live on central even if your an engineer.
until you're 21 windsor is okay; there's a couple small lounges that play house / progressive, but all the bigger clubs have sold out to hip hop and such. in toronto, obviously theres guv, but because the scene is so much bigger, theres alot of smaller clubs and lounges that can be good. overcrowding can be an issue. its 4 hours away, but well worth it.
ive never been out in detroit, but bleu has ferry corsten, mark oliver and g & d all lined up in the next month. it really depends on who you hang out with how much you'll party outside ann arbor. a surprising amount of people seem perfectly satisfied with going to ricks and scorekeepers every weekend. |

well i had a particular experience.
an experience where the bouncers were cooler than the bartenders as the bartender was playing police the customer. i was 21, and he treated me like a kid and made me bring my glass back before i could get another drink. a one per person may be the rule, but no one has to bus a bar but those working that night.
and i have seen people get thrown out just for the accusation of underage drinking, not nec proof

The club has changed a lot since you've been there I presume. There has been a management turnover and all of the old bouncers no longer work for us. All of the bartenders (except DanK & BryanK) have changed as well.
Rest assured that customer service is a top priority. |

| The trance/techno scene in Windsor used to be a lot more lively then it is now (perhaps Detroit overflow...but still it was a bit different), there used to be this one club called Amsterdam...one of the more popular local type DJs of the time had opened it (I don't remember who). However right next door they have opened this lounge type place that has DJs spinning pretty late (well 2am or later when I've been there)...does anyone know the name of this place...I can't think of it for the life of me. Also the last time I was there I think Kenneth Thomas (or was it Kevin Saunderson?) had a gig at one of the bigger clubs on the main street...its worth signing up for their e-mail (Dante's, O, etc.)...that way you can have a pretty good idea of all the goings ons...such as DJs, drink specials, and all that other fun stuff ;) Try not to dispare...just be glad your not in East Lansing (aka MSU)...its definitally hit or miss out here, you usually end up driving out to Ann Arbor or Detroit...oh well, is life. |
