whenever I import a MIDI file to my Cubase SX 2.01.. and I choose the patch in the VST instrument.. and every time I play the riff.. Cubase changes it to another patch.. this is extremely irritating, anybody know the cause of this???

There is a midi message at the beginning of the file telling it to play bank 0, file 1.
Open the midi file, copy the notes, draw in an empty file and paste it in there. |

Aye it's not cubase that's resetting the patch, it's your midi file. In addition to storing notes and velocities (most common midi usage), they can have more complex features, like choosing which patch to load up.

what you might wanna try doing is opening up a new midi file, manually copy the midi notes, and assign it to a new VST.

Yeah, same thing happens to me when I load MIDI files. I just do what the gentleman said: copy and paste it in an empty MIDI draw. :)

You need a hardware sequencer like an MC-909. Then you'll be happy like my lady!
