Zonealarm is a ing horrible firewall and when I deleted it it was still stuck in my registry and ed with my connectivity

I was deleting it a day or two ago and from then on my internet either would not connect. Or I'd have to around with it so much that when it did connect it made the computer and internet run incredibly ing slow..
I called tech support and asked if it was them or my modem or whatever.. ( I use @home cable..512k/s)
blah blah...long conversation
Got down to Zonealarm...turns out for A LOT of people if they try to delete it its still stuck in their registry and blocks all or most of their connectivity. They said thats a big problem that customers seem to have been calling about.

So...anyone who is using this and might have had similar problems...their advice was to either call up Zonealarm and get them to walk you through completely deleting it in your registry, or just reinstall and don't use...
I ended up re-installing it but not using the firewall..and I'm able to connect.

Either way...Zonealarm =

I was pissed cause I couldn't get on TA and other places.. and my friend told me there were some new singles on TA :( it sucked...But now I'm back on
:D

That's very odd, i have had zonealarm installed for 2 years on my PC and various others.
we use Zonealarm pro at work and found it to be the best firewall out there.
I have not heard of ppl having the probs u have had when trying to uninstall it.
Why was u uninstalling it btw ? and how ? was u using the uninstall routine or getting rid of it from add/remove in control panel ?

I was trying to uninstall it because it has been messing up certain email functions and taking over certain types of files. Its just a bad program I downloaded it about 4 months ago from www.download.com (which referred me to zonealarms site to get it) and it worked alright. But lately its just been messing up quite a bit. Making it unable to run programs and such. I've checked my computer for viruses and trojans and whatnot. Scanned out clean. So I used the uninstall that came w/ za and those programs that it was messing with would no longer run w/o ZAPro.exe or something. So I tried reinstalling it and it worked fine. So I download Blackice and that firewall seems to be working a hell of a lot better than Zonealarm....but I'm giving up on software firewalls..I'm buying a hardware one..
Anyhow..I decide to take out Zonealarm through the add/remove in control panel in hopes of it not messing up like last time. Well I remember it running fine until I restart. Then I can't connect to the net. (I run Win98) so... I try messing around w/ winicfg and see if maybe my ip is screwy...then I check my network settings and everything is fine. Then I restart my modem and uninstall then reinstall it...
I go through the whole mess and my damn net still won't work.
The only way it works is if I try and restart windows, not my computer (by going to shut down, then restart, hold shift as you restart and it only restarts windows) well it seems to connect to the net a little when I do that. But it makes my computer run so incredibly slow and the net is so slow that its just ty. When I restart my computer to see if that had fixed the problem..it still hadn't..
From then on nothing seemed to let me connect to the net.
I couldn't figure out what was wrong. So I call up tech support and they take me through the whole process which I already had done and knew (my moms exboyfriend works for the cable company and installs them and showed me how to do everything).. Well then they ask if I ran any firewalls...I told them yes.. but I had stopped them and uninstalled and whatnot..When I told him that I was using Zonealarm thats when he told me about what had happened.

I recently installed Win2k Server on my home system and I was soon infected with the Code II worm because I didn't have a firewall and microsoft patch set up. It left me a web page that said, the USA government
