JEFFERSON -- A purported copy of a Jefferson teen's music compact disc reveals violence, vulgarity and thoughts of suicide by the aspiring rapper.
Kevin Beebe, 19, remains in the Ashtabula County jail on charges of inducing panic and aggravated menacing, jail officials said.
A copy of Beebe's three-track CD, anonymously provided to Star Beacon reporters over the weekend, was deciphered on a home stereo system with the treble and bass turned down so the vocals could be easily heard.
"Watch your back cause I'm packing the strap ... here I come, here I go .... high as a kite in the sky, might kill you ..." Beebe raps in the first track titled, "It's Like That," with sounds of gunfire in the background.
His lyrics also mention Columbine, suicide, guns, drugs, decapitation and a hearse. There's also reference to an unnamed teacher and the Jefferson Police Department performing a sexual act, according to the CD believed to have been from Beebe.
Beebe, whose troubles with the law began Feb. 26 when he anonymously placed CDs on cars parked in Jefferson Area High School's student parking lot, contends he was just trying to promote his music.
However, when the students played the songs, some became alarmed and told their parents, who called police. No one knew who placed the CDs on the vehicles because there was no identification on them.
Law enforcement and school officials took the lyrics as threats and enacted the school district's safety plan Feb. 27, which called for all the school's doors to be locked and a police presence in the building.
Jefferson Police Chief Steve Febel said Beebe was one of several suspects.
Beebe walked to the station and he was alone.
Although authorities have been reluctant to discuss the material contained on the CDs from the beginning of the investigation, except to say Febel and JAHS principal Tom Harrison had been threatened, Beebe acknowledged the lyrics were graphic. However, he insists he's had a difficult life and is just trying to express his feelings through music.
In track 2 on the CD, titled "Friends," Beebe speaks of his grief.
"I have so much pain inside," he states in the song. "When I look at my life you know I want to die."
The lyrics tell a tale of a young man who once had a lot of friends, but they've turned their backs on him. When he dies, he sings, he'll come back and haunt them.
"All I need is me," he said.
The third song, untitled, deals with God, Satan, heaven and hell.
"All this pain kind of hurts," he rants. "God will you help "
If convicted on all counts, Beebe could receive 7 1/2 years in prison. |
