All-time favorite? hmmm it's hard to say. Probably would choose from Shostakovich's 5th Symphony, Dvorak's cello concerto, Beethoven's piano concerto #5 "Emperor", Brahms's Third Symphony or Violin Concerto, Debussy-La Mer, any of the early John Adams works aaah so many more really. Depends on what mood and art period i'm into at the moment. |

I know it's the one everyone chooses but I can't help but loving it to bits. It's repetative which is why I like it (Reminds me of trance)
Edit : Did anyone play the game 'Elite 2 - Frontier', There was a really great piece in that I can't remeber the name of.

| i hear ya, it's very catchy indeed. but for anyone that listens to classical a lot and attends concerts in a serious way this piece is a joke. just too simple and not very deep. whenever i play at a wedding or any gig i always play this... i'm so sick of it. :whip: |

Generally anything that I have heard more than a couple of times I sick of but never tire of that one. The worst is:

Yeah, Brahms 3rd Symphony [and also 4th] is amazing, would be one of my favorites of time. In terms of works in a symphonic scale - Mozart's 25th Concerto for Piano and Orchestra - one of Mozart's most under-rated works.
In terms of solo pieces - Bach's Goldberg Variations no doubt! :)
If I had to pin point two pieces - those would be it, but of course, there are MANY more that have a special place in my ears - ranging from different periods; 20 centuary, Romantic, Impressionism, etc.
There seems to be alot of classical threads these days, and I seem to keep replying with the same answers hehe :toothless |

Mahler 8th Symphony: quite long. I have to be in a certain mood.
Sibelius 5th Symphony: overall, a very massive work. If you listen carefully, you can trace out the melody line from Beethoven's 9th Symphony in the 4th movement.
