sometimes I just wonder about all those stuff you learn in order to produce a quite solid trance track:

-mixing and masterings skills, frequencies, phase, resonance, db levels, panning, space, reverb

-osciallators, unisone, amplitude parameters, high pass filter, lfos, portamento

-routing, phase cancellations, distortion, phaser fx, flanger, chorus

-offbeat bassline, shuffled notes, compressor,

-arpeggios, chords, a minor, scales, tuning...

wow...It's like self studying you get deeper and deeper into music and physics, computers and electronics.

If anyone would have told me that I have to learn things with that intensity, I wonder if I would have decided to produce...

But I guess the answer is yes, because I am addicted to trance production and would do it again.

it is a good experience for me that when I hear a track I mostly know how every single bit in it was made and you can tell where the sound comes from, and all the things.
I never listened so exactly to songs, before I produced

Thats so true !

Funny thing is, I've been producing for about 5-6 years now, but I have friends in work who have been in bands & played instruments for 20 odd years - when I tell them about certain new tricks I have learned (eg a new EQing, compression, effect ect.) they just scratch their heads & say something like 'All I do is play guitar' :haha:

Im scared to death of loosing my memory, no matter how much of my notes I read etc, It would take forever to get where I am now, since half of the knowing is useless till we apply and practise.

Other than that, Im proud to be a freak

I think for me it started when I was wondering how producers were able to make sounds that were never heard before electronics were used. I've always loved learning, and if someone were to ask why I keep reading so much about producion techniques and theory, I'd probably say that I just like having an understanding of how everything works.

But yeah, I agree to a certain extent on the "production made freaks of us" comment. I can speak an entirely new language which stays within English boundaries and still not have anyone in my area understand what I'm saying. Which is, quite frankly, depressing at times, because I won't really have anyone with whom I can bounce ideas off of.

I can look back a year and compare what I knew then to what I know now. Currently it feels like I have a flashlight in a room filled with books on production knowledge, whereas last year all I had was a match...burning at both ends...and it was almost out.

I absolutly love it. I have come lightyears in my years of producing, its an absolute thrill to hear my own sound progress, to learn something new that takes it to the next level. I AM addicted. I have a long way to go though. And I gotta say, I owe ALOT of it to all you guys and to the SampleCity guys (who are also some of you). I hope I can soon give as much back.

Hey. Ya there are so many positive things we learned by learning to produce. But there is this one thing that sometimes annoys me. Whenever I listen to a song and I just wont to listen not listen and anylize the entire track, I just keep seeing the damn cubase arrangement in my head, for all the songs.. I think it's funny, And I can never listen to a track as I use to, just becasue I know how it's done and all, You look at music totaly diefferent.. At list I do..

Ohh and I am sorry I really laugh at people who look at their favorite producer like he's a god or something. Well he's just a guy like me and you that had a great idea.. And I don't understand how people go crazy over them, Sure the tune might be wicked, but he's just a guy.... You know the chick fading , crying when they see their favorite singer or something, hehehe that's pathetic.. I just wonted to say that.. hehe..

same with me, anylize everything, but i actually love it..i love complex stuff, like jazz and all and if you start analyze stuff like that, you get amazed in a way of thinking, like how you compose so many stuff but yet all flows smoothly ,etc...
