Hey, This is the link to my new song that is entered in a $10 000 remix competition put on by the Mininsty of Sound with the artist Sal Soul from back in the 80's.

hey dude, if i were u, i wouldnt post my tune to be entered into a contest seeing anyone could just as easily steal them and claim the prize themselves and you would have no proof it was yours...and the even now nknow what contest it is for...lol...... um.... hi!

what do u mean by steal? i have the track copyrighted by SOCAN, and if it ever made it big by someone else...well then i guess i just made it big:)
The idea was to get the song into the contest, that is why in a sence the bassline dont sound like it fits as it wasn't designed, it was sampled.

well canadian laws say that once something of your own is created it is considered copyrighted.
if you want a song copyrighted, send a cd to youself by registered mail and donot open it. then if someone steals your song, you go to the courts and present the cd with the song that hasn't been opened and shows that it was yours.
also, i am having it registered at mp3.com and it is registered at SOCAN via the cd i sent them. |

Yep, it's true.. That's known as "The Poor Man's Copyright".. just send it to yourself in the mail. :)

"SOCAN" ? What is that? I am interested in copyrighting my own songs... Please tell a url or something :) |

SOCAN is the Society Of Canadian Artists and Performers Network or somthing like that. it is a union kinda that give the indie artist money back and also allows copyrights to your work. it is Canadain only, but there are branches of this society in almost all countries.
you sould beable to go to a music store and ask if there is one in your country.
also you could always do the poor mans way as discribed above |

| as a matter of fact i used techno ejay, with a p3 600, 192 ram and live value. a lot of the non-salsoul samples were created on balearic's (the guy i did it with) synth he has. not sure what kind it is though. converted in sound forge |

Here's how it works in the US:
You have an artistic copyright under law of anything you create, which basically means you have an unofficial copyright that will stand up in court so long as you can prove you are responsible for its creation.
As far as mailing yourself a copy of your music and proof of creation, being a pre-law major in college, I would highly doubt that would be sufficient proof of anything at all. |
