For those who don't know, "Hand Me Downs" is a record or a lot of records that experienced DJ passes on to a beginner DJ, so that person can learn, practice, build skill... In my opinion its somewhat a tradition, when I was stating out a couple of years ago i received some records from another DJ's...
I wonder what are the opinions of others. If the same practice happens in other parts of the world besides USA. If there DJ's here that do know what it is and they do have some "hand me downs" that they are gonna give away when they meet someone who they think are worthy. Just state what you think about the whole thing at all.

i think its a cool tradition, but i started DJing in india and now im in thailand, and i never really was given other djs music.. but, i did get a vinyl from a dj who won the war of the djs in bombay.. he didnt give it to me, he juts threw it off the stage and i caught it heheh. it was a scratch record from dj rectangle, and that introduced me to scratching and thats what i practiced with when i first started scratching a bit.

i think that sort of tradition is awesome, and plus djs who are residents dont exactly play their old tunes too much.. and if you have 1000s of records, im sure you could spare a few to a beginner, giving motivation etcetc
