Buist says even his best idea, the Roll Up the Rim to Win contest, came out of basic common sense.

The company decided it wanted to promote a larger cup. Although it had played with various contest ideas, Buist says he came up with the idea of printing a secret message under the rim after examining a cup and finding the printer's marks on the bottom of the cup. After he found out from the printer that a changeable message could be printed in the area that would be hidden by the cup rim, the famous contest was born.

Those trying to discover some big marketing secret behind Tim Hortons might be disappointed in the book because Buist says there isn't one.

The key idea is to keep it simple, and Roll Up the Rim is an example of that. There are no tabs to pull, no ballots to fill out, nothing complicated for the customer to figure out.

Buist says most companies that run contests buy insurance to protect them in case someone wins. He says Tim Hortons runs its contest on the basis it wants people to win and so doesn't bother with contest insurance.

Okay, correction, they don't give Rim cups HERE when you get a coffee as a prize. :p

Seriously, they don't, I've seen it. Maybe it's just at one or two stores that they screw you? It's all part of the scam, keeping you guessing like that. :p

Don't buy to win the prize. Buy to drink the coffee. If you win, hey it's all good.

If I were buying to drink the coffee I'd be buying a starbucks.
Tim hortons is the tiest coffee ever.

I only drink it because they have a store inside my office building and there is nothing else within walking distance.

<--- has an extra ty coffee this morning

Why Starbucks? Second Cup has coffee that's just as good but a lot cheaper and it doesn't have that... ugh... "artsy" image.

I agree. :D Half the franchises here actually burn their coffee and you have to add extra packets of sugar to compensate. But there are at least 15 Tim Horton's in Kingston, they're everywhere you look, and when I'm paying for 3-4 drinks a day I want 'em to be cheap. :p

And besides... Timmy's has Roll Up The Rim. :happy2:

Totally agree. I'll choose Second Cup over Starbucks any day.

can we say S U C K E R

starbucks coffee is no better than second cup or timothys.

It may be YOUR opinion that Tim Hortons Coffee is , but I along with a few million people think not. If its that ty, then wouldn't you bring your own coffee into work?

I like Second Cup for the flavored coffee, but not for the regular. For regular coffee I prefer starbucks.

ryan, why do you believe Tim's coffee is made with the same quality beans as more expensive coffees?

That aside, a short starbucks regular blend coffee is about the same price as a second cup. The tall is $1.66 I believe...

In any event, I JUST WON A DONUT.

second cup makes great coffee, much better than tim's.

but my fav coffee place is A.L. Van Houtte's

i think that's what it's called. flavoured coffee all the way

Yay, my thread's turning into a flame war! :happy2:

I don't really like Timmy's but I drink it anyway. Since I get a triple triple you can barely taste the coffee. :p Actually, their flavoured coffee is pretty good, whereas the capuccinos I get from Second Cup are utter crap. But all of Second Cup's other drinks I like (Caramel Coretto... mmm).

Damn you all for winning! I'm going to steal a whole pile of Rim cups while they aren't looking!
