didn't know that model but appears to have a decent review here

Got a G3 after reading some mediocre reviews of the G5 and for a non SLR this thing is great.

We have a 10D at work and its nice too if you have the money and can afford all the extra lenses.

sorry to burst some peoples bubbles... the best point and shoot cameras on the market are still the Sony... they have the best lenses, fastest autofocus and richest features...

on the SLR side, its a tie between Canon and Nikon.

actually i found the sonys not nearly as good as my canon and i did much research and tried versions that were more expensive than mine.

I found actually that both Canon and Nikon produced superior results than Sony.

tell me which models are you comparing so we can see if you are comparing the same kind of camera!

I am not talking about the Digital Rebel, the D2H and D100...

I am talking about the point and shoot cameras which are cheaper and targeted at a wider audience!

can someone tell me which one would be a better choice between

Canon PowerShot S500 and Sony DSC-T1

Im sure you dont want to do this, but if your serious about photography and you dont initially want to spend 1000plus on a digital SLR then the best way to go is analog. its the purist anyway[like developing your own film and stuff]. I have a Nikon N80 and i couldnt be more happier about it, plus settin light appiture and getting new lenses coulndt be more fun.

my first look tells me that the Sony is an super compact compared to a bigger size for the S500. They're not exactly the same type of camera IMO. The T1 looks more like a gagdet.

The S500 has a bigger CCD which gives it an edge in low light situations...

Its lense are better too.

I would pick the S500 unless you really want to show off with your credit card size camera :D
