Let's see Capcom has: Resident Evil (Outbreak, Code Veronica), Dino Crisis, (Gun) Survivor and what else?
Konami just has three Silent Hill games. With a fourth on the way.
Too bad it looks like more of the same from Capcom. I forgot they're the ones with Super Street Fighter Turbo EX2 Plus and other earlier shorter titled games. As well as over 10 different Megaman versions
As Yogi Berra once said "It's deja vu all over again". |

when does RE:4 come out?
The AI is amazing in this game. From the looks of it the AI will be smarter than most people playing the game...robots i tell ya |

did you even bother reading anything about this game? Cause from everything shown on it, it looks like the only relation to other RE's is the title, and the main character. Although it's likely that the stories will somehow be tied together, there's very little in common with RE4 and the past RE's.
And please, there's nothing outdoor about Silent Hill with the amount of fog in it. |

Reading about the same old rehashed game isn't going to make me buy it any faster.
Fog? What about the pre-rendered backgrounds then? The RE series is awash in it. Even in the Gamecube rehashed version. So for Capcom to think they just made a breakthrough in gaming technology would just be a little too late.
Konami used fog to help Silent Hill's frame rate. The PS1 could barely keep up with the demanding graphics developers wanted to push into that console.
I have both series of games so don't think I lean on one because I haven't played the other.
So yes an outdoor RE is just a last ditch effort to try to save a genre that they have overplayed like a Britney Spears song. |

What about all the fog in Silent Hill 2? Hell, I was playing that last week and got in fed up running around for 30 minutes through stupid fog. Comparing the fog to prerendered backgrounds is lame. At least with the backgrounds, you could see further than 5 feet away from you.
And the remake for Gamecube was sort of a breakthrough if you know how the graphics were actually done; even though the backgrounds were prerendered, all the lighting and shadowing was done in real time. Everything reacted like it was done in real-time. Thats actually quite a feat. And it's hardly a rehash. But I guess new story elements, defense items, and so on are useless :)
As for this new RE; well, it's not just the fact that it takes place outside that makes it new (which it does, whether you like it or not). The fact that zombies got substituted with *smart* enemies this time around really adds to the gameplay aspect, as does the ability to aim at bodyparts.
But whatever, I guess you can make the argument that any game is a rehash of another game. True originality is very scarce is this generation, and it'll be even more scarce as time goes by. Every game repeats what another game introduced previously; I guess now it's more about how well a developer puts everything together. |

Obviously you didn't read where I say I have both series of games.
The fog in SH2 is not there through the whole game. You probably haven't even finished it to think there is fog in the games' entirety. Thirty minutes play is too little time to make a gross assumption.
In the prerendered backgrounds of all RE installments it is lame to push up on the directional pad to go up onscreen then have that same screen change perspective and not lose direction. Point sourced lighting and shadowing is in SH2. For the RE:GC version to have it is no breakthrough. The outdoor scenes in RE4 are not new, SH1 has had it already.
Also I forgot to point out that Resident Evil is on rails, something that Silent Hill has in a very small degree compared to RE.
Sure RE made survival horror come into existence but SH made it more viable as a genre. But like any other developer, Capcom has beat that dead horse already with four to five seperate spin offs of their original title.
Originality is passe and cliched when it comes to any form of entertainment. Be it music, movies or games.
That I agree upon. |

| i wouldnt compare silent hill and resident evil anyway. in silent hill, you run away from 90% of enemies. they need to make these games longer. i fly thru the suckers... 1 nite and im done with a res evil or silent hill game. |
