Rythm+Bass direct to Master or Premixed?

Hi,
I'm currently working on this (Epoxy is the track name, by the way, and it's unfinished):
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/2/shockwavedjmusic.htm
I'm a bit disappointed with the 'swing' of the track, specially with the rythm and bass section. I'm happy with that kick but I don't like the Clap+CHH+OHH too much. I usually premix and compress Percussion and bass 'to compact' the bass part of the mix, but in this way the sound gets muddy and treble and soft sounds (like OHH) become too aggressive.
Some info about how was it made:
Percussion: no loops, only samples in Battery. The Perc sample lib is AKAI Dance Mega Drums 2. Kick+Clap+CHH (various shortened HH)+ OHH+Simple Tribal Section (Tabla+Conga).
Bass: Audiorealism Bassline (jumping over 2 octaves). Delay: PSP84.
Compressor: Waves C1+ (sidechain)
Any comments or suggestions to improve the 'swing' and the rythm section? I'm not for using perc loops, I prefer to program my battery kits, but if there is no other way...
Thanks a lot! |

the sound before the bassline comes in is yukky.
but then it gets good.
Your percussion is fine, why do want swing. this is trance its ment to be robotic.:tongue2
Cant hear the clap though |

| Try compressing the percussion seperate from the kickdrum and the bassline. |

Thanks for all, men!
First of all, apologyze because I wrote rythm instead of rhythm (in spanish there's no so many 'h': just "ritmo" ;) ).
Returning to the main question, Damie, I'm with you about trance being more mechanical than house or D&B but as trance evolves, more an more complex rhytmic patterns are used. You can listen to the first PVD works and compare them to the current ones. Basses are more rhytmic and rhythms are near tribal. Don't you think so?
Uh, Damie... What does yukki mean? I've looked everywhere (online dictionaries, etc.) but... no results! :conf:
Moth: I have taken into account your advice and I've separed low-freq tracks (kick and bass) from hi-freq (claps, HH,...) and, thanks again, it gives a better result! I've uploaded to the same location another song that I'm working into, an Oceanlab remix. Separating Kick and bass from the rest gives the mix much more power and punch. |
