I also think the Absynth is great, although it's a bit hard to understand. I also like the Bass-station, Tickyclav, Superwave sometimes.
But the best softsynth you can get right now for trance productions is definitely the Vanguard. Appears to come close to the sound of a Virus! Really love that synth, has such a rich and full sound. |

..which is quite hard too. I really don't understand all these mods... but the Absynth is one labyrinth.. doesn't make sense at all :S |

Had a look at the demo, sounds very nice indeed :eyespop: |

my set-up + recommendations
Leads/Lead Pads: Superwave (free) / Vanguard / Zeta (don't have)/ V-Station (don't have)
Pads/Strings: Absynth / Atmosphere
Bass: Triangle II (free)
FX/Atmospheric sounds: Crystal (free)
Reaktor is an interesting beast and is very very difficult to get a grasp of it... But once you understand that thing... There is some raw powerful stuff you can create out of that thing...
Ppd Tritium... I am not sure if you are talking about the same free plugin that I have... But from what I gather, it has a very harsh but good quality sound but VERY VERY low flexibility! I mean, it has 1 oscillator, 2 waveforms to choose (saw or square), a pitch control, a cutoff and res control, envmod and decay, and an accent knob... I personally recommend Triangle II... This thing is amazing for basses (presets are not the greatest though)... I also recommend a good 303 vintage emulator for basslines...
As for the other ones, you can't go wrong with what I listed... they are simply among the best for the category that they are listed in... Hope that helps mate ;) |

Interesting that you don't mention the claw when you have it in your avatar.
Anyways, about Absynth and FM, both are more advanced forms of synthesis, and both are a hell of a lot easier to use if you understand the theory behind each synth type. The Absynth has an extremely steep learning curve, but it's definitely worth it. I've never used the FM 7, but just judging by the name, I'm guessing it's based on frequency modulation, which is a hell of a lot easier to understand than wavetable synthesis (imo).
Personally I don't like additive/subtractive synthesis very much because I find its' capabilities rather limited as compared to other synth models out there. |

I dont have a setup that is there to never be changed, but mostly
leads, pads | superwave(pro,performer, trance proc, p8), Pro 53
bass | zeta oder audiorealism bassline
strings etc | free alpha and some superwave synths
pentagon for some wooshes and splashes
that is it basically, but can change sometimes |

yeah, I forgot to mention the FreeAlpha, which is really great IMO. Very flexible and you can do some powerful pads/basses with it.
Also have a look at the Linplug Albino. Found this one a couple of weeks ago and the pads you can get out of it are amazing. Nowadays when I want to put in a pad I immediately go Albino! Atmosphere is great too for this, never used it, but only heared good things about it. |

An interesting program. It is a fun little synth, although far from acurate. If you want to emulate 303s, then I suggest ABL, its quite cheap (about 90 euros) and has recently been updated with a cool GUI and new envelope mod which sounds heaps better. |
