I know T-mobile and AT&T have that......

but it's pretty expensive. If I recall, it's 50 USD with 100 or so minutes and valid for 2 months

For some reason, this is cheaper and more popular in other countries

This is what I've found.. $0.17/minute.. but it's incoming/outgoing right?

I pay $0.10/minutes in my country and only outgoing calls.. CPP (Calling Party Pays)

I did exactly that for this year's wmc, was SOOO convenient to have a US phone to talk and txt-message with everyone.

I bought a T-mobile prepaid sim-card. As far as could find out all other services don't use sim cards, but you have to buy a phone which is hardwired to the respective network, tho AT&T may have sim in addition to the hardwired phone. ALL prepaid servieces in the US are essentially rip-offs as you lose the number if you don't recharge in certain intervals, usually 60 days. But it was still worth it.

I paid $ 95 (incl. tax) for the card and it came with 200 minutes of airtime. Every minute cost c10 and the same for each txt-message sent. Receiving txt is free. When I left I had a mere $10 balance left, so it all came BY FAR cheaper than any roaming charges had I just used my sim from home.

It does store your contacts but whats nice about gsm is its used all over the world. So if you wanted to, you could take you phone to The Uk or Asia and use it there but its prob expensive to do so. Thats why compants have pre-paid sim cards. Just pop that sim into your phone and walla...you have minutes. ;) As long as your phone is tri band and works on that countries frequencies.
