if you were to do this, which route would you take, which places would u go see, party, chill etc..

i think the distance is about 1100 km (for you americans that is about 690 miles)

i know there are tolls in france...wondering about germany, luxembourg and austria...

anyone done anything like this before? tell me about it...spare no details

a roadtrip in like 5 days, with all that distance? i think you would be spending more time driving than seeing or doing anything else. plus gas is so expensive it isnt even worth it to drive. get a trainpass, you wont regret it.

Well I would reccomend going through France to Italy, it's fastest.
There are tolls in both tho :(
Germany hasn't any and in Austria you have a highway sticker you buy.
I'd go through Paris from London to Nice, Monaco then to Milan and finally Venice.
But as said, I doubt you'll get to do a lot, but hopefully you'll see a lot :)

It sounds like a lot of fun, but if I'm in europe at all this summer I'll be stationary. Somewhere in germany from june 25th- july 15th or 16th...

I would have been in Berlin but I just brought in my mail and I was informed that I wasn't selected for the trip. *(I was in the running for an all expense paid 3 week trip to Germany because I scored extremely well on a national German language exam. Apparently I'm too young. "Older students" have preference over 17 year olds like me though they might not be as intelligent) It's depressing. I really think I should have been chosen. Some of the people I interviewed with didn't even have half a BRAIN. So now i'm a little ticked off because i was so psyched to go to GERMANY and now i just got stabbed in the heart.

all you people have fun though @ loveparade 2004 :)

Ooh, I won one of those trips for this past summer on a national French language exam. Go us! Best summer of my life... That's BS that you didn't make it, though... :whip: I was 17 when I went!
Props to you for being so smart, though... I'm learning German right now in college...

if you can handle the crowdedness, the loud whistling in the streets and subway stations, the queues for the porta-johns, and the possible sight of people making love, then yes!

if you're gonna go, you better reserve a hotel room pronto (if they're not all already taken)!

It is easily possible to drive 1100km in one or two days, but the question is how much you want to see while doing your trip.

A general rule of thumb is that you can go about 100 - 120 km/h on average (including gas/ pee stops etc) while driving.

There are tolls in France and you would need to pay to drive in/through switzerland. Certain tunnels in Austria will most likely have you pay tolls as well.

Germany is toll free, unless you drive a commercial truck.

Travelling in France by car is not faster than any other country, since they have a speed limit of 130km/h on their highways. In Germany, some portions of the highway (the majority) does not have an upper speed limit.

Gas prices are VERY high all throughout Europe. Expect to pay at least twice the US price, more likely a little more than that.

If you end up doing this, please remember that it is ILLEGAL to pass on the right hand side in europe, unless you are in the city, or in a traffic jam on the highway.

at least they have a decend amoung of porta-johns there, since they are trying to keep people from peeing the parks.

Hotel rooms aren't gone at this point. I got a very nice deal (50e/ day for 2 people) in mid may 2003. I booked my hotel in late June in 2002 and got a similar deal.
