i have a problem... i can't figure out a solution.. so maybe some of you know how to fix it.

When i go to a website and want to download a media file ( mp3, wmv, mpg), it opens automatically in winamp/wmp/etc without letting me save the file first...

anyone knows how to fix this without using an external program (like a download manager ?)

thanks!!!

hmmm, *looks around*

by the looks of it nobody here uses winamp...

oh well I'll help ya...

go into Winamp->Options->File associations:

take off .mpg .wma .avi

etc....

if that doesnt work just reinstall Internet Explorer

answer? dont use explorer. you can solve your problem with it, eventually...but just use this instead. Firefox is faster, more secure and allows multiple dld options:

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

if that doesnt solve it, which it should in some way or another the problem is with websites (Flash, Shockwave for example) or file assoc above. but at least Firefox offers more options|

nope... i tried with wmv and wmp still opens up directly.

did you restart IE/Explorer?

Also, I know firefox gives you options but the thing is that you can't force people in changing browsers for this little detail... and I am pretty sure there's a way around it.

i dunno, works for me :P

and i didnt even restart ie

i could flip the functionality from just open when i click the link to the open/save dialog back and forth
