Hows it going?!

Heres my first two songs but don't underestimate them and shrug past them, I'd really like to hear what some of you think!

I'm using Reason 1.0 with the original factory sound bank so you will probably notice that the range of the sounds I use are quite limited in each track but I've just been experimenting with song structures, editing automations, basically getting to know my way around Reason. I'll be buying a Trance sound bank pretty soon and in the hopefully not so far future upgrading to Reason 2.5 so that should keep me going for a while.

A lot of the songs I'm downloading from this forum are blowing me away, why aren't some of you guys signed yet? (Bren-F and Fractal Structure are a couple by memory)

DNA - Drum N Bass (Hard Tech Mix) 128k about 4.5mb

This track is my 2nd song and is a percussive and techy, sort of a bridging track in a set of more melodic trance I'd say.

DNA - Womans Touch (Extended Mix) 128k about 4.5mb

This track was my first job and is hard dark trance I would call it, I spent quite a bit of time on this track.

Try listening to Drum N Bass first then Womans Touch cued right after, I think they work well together for contrast.

Anyway, thanks if you got around to listening to them and telling me what you thought! Would be great help to get some feedback.

comments as i listen:
DnB tune
starts out a little simplistic, but its still funky soundin and danceable. i like it a lot around the 4:00 mark. i dont listen to a whole lot of drum and bass so i wouldnt know if this is good compared to some signed songs, but it sounded pretty good.

Woman's Touch
good so far, i like that that synthy sound that starts at :36 seconds
good percussion. a little weird with the pads around 1:40-2:00 but still alright. this kinda reminds me of a computer game hehe i like it. good stuff man! i like this one more

i am an avid dnb fan, i own a handful of dnb records

the dnb tune:
well, i dunno, to be honest i dont like it one bit. it reminds me of one of the 50 dnb productions ive started so long ago and just havent deleted yet cause they went no where. there is no real phat sounding bassline, seems like you focused to much on the kick alone and not a drum pattern. and try using a variation of snares, not just that SINGLE ONE, and maybe a dryer snare(sounds like you used a clap or something with effects all over it). not much dnb productions have kicks like what youre using, not to say thats bad, but just making a general trend statement. a lot of time the kick sounds more in the background on dnb tracks and the bassline sticks out a lot more than it did on yours. and if you use a synth with bass mixture like you did, trying overlaying another synth with more bass or only bass on it, to bring out its 'phatness' more. ;) i dunno, a good start i spose to dnb, but you still got a ways to go. did you use a drum machine of anykind for it? or did you just draw in the drum sounds where they are? sounds premature in almost every aspect-

trance track:
the link didnt work for me. sorry-

thanks for the input! :)

i should probably change the name of that song because its not supposed to be drum n bass, its actually supposed to be hard tech trance which starts off with a drum n bass beat. hence why i described it as hard tech when the song name was drum n bass.

i thought it might sound good to mix the styles in a song but anyway, thanks for the help! :)

I downloaded your tracks ages ago, but all the things I download go into one big pot which is so disorganised it’s a nightmare to find anything...or remember what you’ve downloaded! So apologies for belated reply.

Overall opinions of your tunes. The D n’ B one wasn’t really my cup of tea to be honest. I felt that it just didn’t go anywhere. By this point I wasn’t expecting much from Woman’s Touch, however, I was pleasantly surprised. Nice ambience to the track, I especially like the choiry vocally pad you have, gives a nice texture to the track. The lead synth sounded a tad cheesy, not the melody in it’s self but the actual synth, nothing horrific though. I liked the filter/delay effect at the end, though I think it ever so slightly distorts! I’d recheck it just to make sure, could just be my set up though.

the "drum n bass" tune is a good start to some breakbeat hardcore - don't know if that's what you were going for but that's what it soudns like to me.

i know some people that spin this type of music, but it usually has more to it. if you had more elements to it you can pass it on to a hardcore dj or something, there are more out there than you think. :)
