Tiesto going tech-trance??? (pg. 2)

| Tiesto has always played tech trance and occasionally techno in his sets. Look at Space Age 1.0 from 1998, that's all techy stuff. Even his early Magiks had tech trance scattered throughout. He tends to play what he likes and tech trance has seemingly been growing in popularity recently so it's only natural that there are good records being put out and that he would pick up on them. |

Just two short points:
1. Flight 643 and Traffic are DEFINATELY NOT TECHNO! 643 Could be classed as some sort of techtrance but thats it. :whip:
2. Neither PVD or Tiesto play techno in their sets. |

tiësto & junkie xl - obsession (frank biazzi remix) is not techno?!!?!? and yes tiësto has been playing that and very much i might add, don't think he does anymore, but he definately spins some techno tunes here and there and that is not the only techno track he spins though! dunno about pvd though as i rarely listen to sets by him! i don't listen that much live sets anyway, so i can't name any other techno tunes played by tiësto. |

anyone saying tiesto doesnt play some techno tunes in his sets are complete tools. I'm not talking Mojado ft Sam here... i'm talking Renato Cohen, Frank Biazzi and LUPP style releases... u calling that trance???
btw. Tiesto only JUST a tech-trance dj the last year??? ffs... use some initiative and check out some early material anything from forbidden paradise / lost treasures / space age compilation cd's will show u that tiesto was not as fluffy as u thought pre-1999. |

tech trance and techno are two very different things. ever since tiesto started spinning trance he's always had a darker, techier side that he likes to bring up to diversify his sets a bit,nothing new there.
pvd and tiesto might play the occasional techno tune (ie. PvD playing Liebing or Tiesto playing Plastikman-Spastik or some Umek tune) but this is just part of their mission to diversify and explore their own sound. doesn't mean they became techno djs or anything close to it. they just use the techy sound the same way they might use the proggier, deeper, and breakbeatier sounds----to take a break from the same ol' raped to death epic formula and spice up their sets to keep it interesting.
but Traffic and 643 techno? hah. |

Here's a *cheer* to hoping more styles will help spread diversity like the colors in a rainbow and variety (which is the spice of life) instead of putting a choke hold and kicking its head into the ground.
I've seen enough "underground pure elitist snob trance vs. Top 40 vocal trance" and "trance vs. drum 'n' bass" and "IDM vs. everyone else" to last me several bad-Karma'ed lifetimes and I'd like some peace. I don't think I'm the only one. I like a lot of music in a lot of styles. Why have a lollipop when you can have the whole candy store? (and I'm not saying you have to eat it all at once either)
Tip of the day: did you know you can turn most cheese (I use that word inaccurately) trance into minimal techno by:
-stripping the lyrics and obvious riffs until only a beat and bassline and maybe a few sfx are left
-taking 8-bar sections and looping them to infinity and beyond
-toughening up the kick drum with some distortion
Or even better yet, did you know you can turn a house track into a breaks track by:
-grabbing the kick and snare drums and moving them this-a-way and that-a-way?
I am joking. Somewhat. A cautionary tale. ;)
