| i think there is a little too much genre creating...its stupid...just listen to the tunes that you want. who cares if its super-fuzzy-happy-go-lucky-uplifting trance. genres are a great way to find stuff similar to what you want, but in the end that's all they're good for... |

yeah you can tell the difference
progressive house is more percussive and sometimes has nice deep basslines that give a hint of a housey atmosphere. I guess its more of what digweed, sean cussick would play.
progressive trance is somewhat more of what christopher lawerance, d-fuse, sasha would play, although sasha is not exclusive prog trance. i think prog trance still has atmosphere and percussion, but slightly different basslines and light synths. |

Trance is about uplifting sythns and rythms all very much in your face.
Prog on the other hand is much more subtle, it's not an 'instant hit' style like trance. instead uses elements of it at time, but to a very good effect. Tracks don't sound quite so 'samey' either. |

I don't think there are any absolutes in any cases... just generally accepted definitions and less common, splintery ones. It's clear to me that it's a matter of perspective and observation unique to the individual... everyone gets into the music in a different way (i.e. not all of us went through the same first prog trance tracks when we were green and new, but they were all branches of the same tree).
I find it insulting to dismiss anyone's opinion as "DUMB@$$ AND WRONG U SUX0RS" but I do appreciate continued reasonable dialog and conversation on the matter... as the music CONTINUES to change in some ways, yet stay the same in others.
That being said, in hindsight, there is additional clarity. Retro-classification of styles is not-unheard of either. But, who still uses "epic house"? Just curious. :D |

Was too lazy to dig out the thread myself, hence why I said it's been discussed :P |

| imo, Prog House has less of a defined melody, whereas Prog Trance is more uplifting, yet both are Progressive and so are more grounded than Trance in general. |

| as a track of D-fuse's people 2 cd said, "Music is simply good music" :thepirate |

My observation:
There are a number of notable prog trance tracks, which -- when you take out the melodic riffs that evolve overtop and perhaps throw in a couple of driving percussion lines for good measure (often syncopated, maybe bongos or congas or spacey fx) -- indeed, you get something akin to prog house. It's not a far leap.
Like twins:
Different, yet the same . . . ;) (yes, it's a joke)
Hahahaha...
