So generic and uninspiring with the standard supersaw synths. *Yawn* Me no likey.

I dunno how happy Samuel Barber himself is.. as he died 13 years ago (March 9 1910 - January 23 1981). Probably his family is happy for the incoming royalties tho.

He wrote "String Quartet in B major" in 1936 of which he two years later rearranged and the result became known as "Adagio For Strings".. Then William Orbit rerecorded the classic in 1999 to the electronic form we know as "Barber's Adagio For Strings".

Well the Adagio is just the slow movement of the string quartet, he just re-arranged it for string orchestra when it became so popular. I like the string quartet version a bit better as i've played both, it seems more sublime imo.

I love William Orbit's reinterpretation of the piece but I've never been able to stand Ferry Corsten's happy epic remix. I thought it didn't really capture the true sense of the piece with the typical dutch trance fluffy buildup. Nevertheless, I thought tjat the Tiesto interpretation was just perfect ever since I heard it at the Gelredome at TiC. That somber, darker and techier take on Adagio is much more appropriate in my books than any other remix out there.

Yes, the quartet version is bit more minimalistic and not so powerful but it still carries the same melancholic emotion as what the orchestra version.

Am I the only one who doesn’t think the ferry mix could be classed as happy?

you don't understand what I mean. Ferry completely changed the mood of the melody, he even modulated it into a major key. imo it doesn't do justice to the original, but that's just my opinion.

Remixes of classical/baroque/romantic/neoclassical/comtemporary bonzai schtuff will always be controversial ;)

I can just imagine Beethoven and co. rolling over... hence the phrase, "Roll over, Beethoven!" hahaha :D

Did you know that "Adadio For Strings" was JFK funeral music? Pretty sad piece of classic.
