London Tim Horton's aren't so bad I guess...but we are infested with idiots who work in them. You know...I'm mostly pro union and I believe in worker's rights to form unions...but I can't believe some TH employees have tried to form a TH union in Ontario. I mean WTF?? YOU SERVE COFFEE AT MINIMUM WAGE! If you're over 30 and are working at Tim Horton's, you don't ing deserve a union!

Anyway...I once found a big slimey green booger in my bagel halfway after I had eaten it.:nervous: That said...I haven't paid for a tea at that particular TH's since.:p

you again. No, everyone does NOT deserve a union. You have to look at the kind of work, the qualifications required, skills involved, etc. If everyone had a union, we'd have the exact same situation Britain had in the 70s and 80s...they were demanding things that just weren't possible and they were the main cause of the British economic problems throughout that time. Unions are a good thing, but not everyone can have them, or they would be far too powerful (kinda like how corporations are too powerful now)

Besides...do you honestly think a TH worker, who makes ing doughnuts and serves coffee, deserves to make anything MORE than minimum wage? I seriously hope not. You don't even need a grade 12 education to work at those stores. I'm sorry, but if you're 30 years old and a "professional" coffee server employed by Tim Horton's, you're probably not much good at anything else.
StereoPrincess
why would you think that someone that works at tim horton's isn't skilled enough.

just because they serve coffee doesn't mean that they can be treated like garbage. the way you are talking about these people seems very rude. and there are some tim horton's have unions and they work fine.

yes, i do, because our current minimum wage is way below the poverty line.

Why aren't they skilled enough? Well, for starters, they make all. (maybe 9 dollars an hour if they're lucky?) And since skilled professions usually pay better, why would anyone waste their time at TH or fast food places if they have such skills? Answer = they DO NOT have any skills. All the TH staff that I ever talk to usually give me a similar story. Either they're high school dropouts, students, old retired ladies that usually never worked anyway or just can't get any other job. That said, of course they deserve not to be treated like . But they certainly don't deserve a union that would ever dare to ask for 15-20 dollars an hour. Three years ago, Timmie's workers went on strike and they wanted 16 dollars an hour plus benefits for the full timers! That's absurd!

Personally, I think its too hard to draw the line between which employees should have unions and who shouldn't. Hopefully, one day we won't need unions becuase consumers will be aware of which employers treat their employees like garbage and will protest by not supporting their product. Well, at least we're moving towards it IMO.

^^^^ that I agree with. But still...Walmart is one of the biggest offenders for treating their workers like crap. The enforce long hours and skimp out on breaks, vacation time, etc and have continuously fought against their employees organising. That sucks, but when I buy a DVD or a computer game, I'm probably going to buy it there rather than a specialty store like HMV or Future Shop. Why? Because Walmart is vastly cheaper and that's what matters to me the most.

let me fill u guys in for those who don't know..

Workers start at min wage they can get maybe a 15 cent raise every year, they will never make over 8 dollars

Supervisors start at around 8 bucks, and have a pay cap of 9 bucks an hour

Managers I am not sure, I think they do alright, but they put hellish hours and deal with lots of crap

and while that obviously sucks ass, it's their own fault for choosing a career where you wear a stupid uniform and serve coffee as a corporate slave. I'm not targeting students who work at TH, or even the old ladies trying to make an extra buck, but I just have no respect for anyone who would make their career and life's income as a coffee server/cashier and then expect to make 40,000 a year.

Some people don't have a choice. They immigrate here thinking their degrees will get them good jobs but then find out their paper is worthless. They need money and are willing to take anything available to them.

Just be glad you have the opportunities that they didn't.
