Just because something doesn't have a breakdown every two minutes it doesn't make it proggy.

Christopher Lawrence is driving progressive trance all the way. He's practically the definition of that style, because outside of him it doesn't really exist in the mainstream, except for John 'OO' Fleming in his less psy-influenced moods.
Progressive trance DOES NOT mean progressive house, commonly referred to as "progressive" or "prog". |

I know exactly what both progressive Trance and Progressive House are mate, and I really don't think it's Prog Trance. Like I say, just because it doesn't have breakdowns every few minutes, doesn't automatically render it Prog Trance.
Prog Trance is imo James Holden, Max Graham, Sasha, Starecase e.t.c It has been much faster than Prog Trance is. It is true Trance, just the more driving and undergound end of things imo.
P.s on a different note, have you noticed how it's actually went quite hard since we last spoke?:confused: |

Actually I agree with you. What Lawrence plays now is closer to to a hard style of pure "trance" than "progressive trance." It's just that if one says "trance" by itself people wouldn't have much idea what you mean because there are so many types. It's not very descriptive.
Lawrence's style evolved as an especially hard version of progressive trance; his work actually used to overlap significantly with what are now progressive house labels, such as Hook and Bedrock. The split off between Lawrence and the progressive trance you're talking about (which can arguably be lumped into "progressive" these days) happened a few years ago. Listen to late 90s work from Breeder, John Graham, Evolution, Natious, and Max Graham. They were pretty interchangable between Christopher Lawrence, Digweed, Sasha, Warren, and so on. Hence my labeling of his style as "driving progressive trance."
But maybe just "driving trance" would be better now, since progressive is such a hot word.
And yeah, he did end on a really hard streak. |
