oakenfold's essential mixes '99 (pg. 2)

The 99 EM World Tour mmixes are what got me into trance in the first place. The first trance mix I ever listened to was the mix at the Rojan in Shanghai. As soon as I heard it I was hooked.
For the longest time all I had was Oakie's Essential Mixes and nothing else. I remember having the Home @ Space in Ibiza mix on repeat for near two weeks in my car. In my humble opinion, this was the golden year of trance.
It's so hard to rank them all! My thoughts:
Havana - in one word, UNIQUE! Easily in the top 3 of any of Oakie's mixes. There's something about this mix I still can't put my finger on. There are tracks on here that I have never heard on any other mix. I am particularly fond of Angelmoon - He's All I Want, one of the most memorable tracks in all of trance IMO.
Shanghai - In one word, SMOOTH! This mix is awesome to listen to when you're just chilling or when you're going to bed. It never gets too dark or techy. This is THE mix that got me into trance.
Ibiza - In my opinion, this mix represents trance during its golden age. It's got a great mediterranean feel to it, with many tracks that have become staples. This is trance at its finest.
London (@ Home) - This mix has a broad selection of tracks that take you on an incredible journey, which is what trance is really all about. The best part is near the final buildup, with an incredible remix of my favorite song of all time, 7 Cities. BTW, if anyone knows what remix this is and can hook me up, I will consider you a god (well, maybe just a minor deity).
Brighton Beach - I don't have that quality of a track, but this set is excellent! Starts off with a lot of energy, as the mix progresses it starts to get more chill and smooth. There's a LOT of tracks on here that have become classics, so if you're looking for a hit set, this is it.
Gatecrasher - This set really mixes up all sorts of different sounds. From tech-trance beeps and boops to high-energy beats to melodic synths, this has it all.
I have a couple more mixes, but they are cut short and of poor quality. It's so hard for me to choose which is best, they are all incredible.
Damn, now you got me hooked on all these old mixes again! |

Have all his sets from the '99 EM tour, listen to them religiously. Anyone ever has a question why you listen to trance, play them those sets.

| Not trying to start another Oakie bashing thread. His 1999 essential mixes were definitely legendary in terms of track selection. However, if you pay close attention to his mixing, it's :nervous: . |

Ok what we will do here is set you up with a dark_tenshi VS Paul Oakenfold tag, and then after your mixing out dues paul's you can feel free to harrasse his mixing as you see fit. |

Depends on the set. The Cuban mix could have been better, but the track selection was incredible. The Rojan set has impeccable mixing, not to mention a killer track selection. |

| I have Paul Oakie's 99 mix that goes something like 70minutes or so, with chick going throght the middle with something like: Live on Howlem Fm. That cd was living in my deck for a week or so with repeat in its best function. |
