am curious how many different type of acid sounds can you make in substractor.
once mike helped me with a good tb303 substractor patch and gave me a good idea how to make acid line with sound.
yet if i wanne create something it useually sound the same acid, yet i do know there are some other styles.
so for the reason users that can make cool acid effects, can post some samples to give me an idea with maybe a tutorial?
thank you |

Well I don't use Subtractor, but I have made some cool acid type sounds using the virus. Basically, it's using one saw oscillator with high resonance, LP filter and distortion to drive. That's the essence of acid really. You can use square waveforms as well, but I tend to get better results with saw, except in a tb where square tends to generate a more solid sounding lead. I also have some pulse width modulation on it as well, I just checked, and my waveform is a cross somewhere between a saw and a sqaure. I don't think you can do that in subtractor can you? |

i misunderstood, i think you mean a waveform that is between saw and square? dont think sub has that, i do know i can set 1 osc square and other 1 saw if thats what you mean.
il try your ideas when i go back home this week, cheers |

I don't use reason so I'm not familiar with Subtractor. The virus lets you define the shape of the waveform. Rather than being purely saw or purely square, you can make a waeform somewhere inbetween the two. The shape of the waveform is variable rather than fixed. |

No it's a simple way of waveshaping called pulse-width modulation. I think on Sub you can have it do FM synthesis, as well as some cool additive/multiplicative/subtractive wave layering, which you can use to emulate a PWM knob. |

just keep playing with the knobs
there are infinte ways to get a variety of acid sounds
(and dont forget to use the scream aswell) |

ah sweet thanks :) ill try and check that out |

The best so far is ABL for making acid. It's quite cheap as well. I think Muon has a freebee and if you can find it still, the one before ABL called FreeBee was obviously free. Not sure if it's still around though. I'm sure if you look hard enough, you'll find it. |
