I seen quite a few bargains on various audio sites graded as B stock - also reffered too sometimes as Brown goods? Anyone wanna fill me in as too why you can save over £100 sometimes on these items? Are they returns? No warranties?

B-Stock items are either open box or refurbished items. Obviously its better to have open box ones because they will be pretty much brand new, and since the refurbished ones were damaged in the first place and were sent back to the factory for repairs. Either way, u should be able to get a warranty of sort.

I was also under the impression that B-Stock can also be "blems" where the thing should work and is not a refurb or return but has visual "blemishes" which they would not claim as passing QA. Hopefully DJ Tranz can enlighten us :)

About refurbs, some people claim that refurbs have lower incidence of returns then new items. Presumebly because it has passed QA twice (of course getting buy on the first time :( ).

I am not sure I agree with the open box being better than a refurb. An open box can either be someone who bought it and just didn't like it and returned it but whatever they did to it, no one knows. The store is just putting it back up for sale. At least with a refurb you know that the factory as fixed it and it now functions just like a new unit (from a quality assurance point of view). While usually you will not get a full warranty with these units, you should get one of some kind (like a 90 day instead of 6 month or year long).
