| A lot of people on these forums throw the term "cheese" around in talking about various artists, tracks, and labels. I was just wondering what some of you use as your criteria. I was mostly wondering because there are times when someone mentions people such as Darude and Sammy, and everyone immediately disregards it as "cheese". This is not to say that I don't think Darude and Sammy suck (because I do). I'm just interested in banging out some rough guidelines for what constitutes a "cheesy" track. |

Cheese is a solid, yummy food made from milk.
Interestingly, there are types of cheese in the shape of the button. |

The noun "cheese"
1. cheese -- (a solid food prepared from the pressed curd of milk)
2. tall mallow, high mallow, cheese, cheeseflower, Malva sylvestris -- (erect or decumbent Old World perennial with axillary clusters of rosy-purple flowers; introduced in United States)

I assume you've missed the many times that I've commented on this. If it's not on the first two pages, I don't bother. I don't have that kind of spare time... doing a search before a given post. |

This, of course, is an important question that nevertheless comes up time and time again.
I'll say three things:
1) I don't feel comfortable defining it because it's not my place to judge
2) If I was to judge, a lot of music labelled as "cheese" is music I like
3) Cheese the foodstuff is good for you. Mmmm protein.
The term breaks down miserably if you think really hard about it. Invariably it generates a high noise-to-signal ratio, and I mean the elitist snobs and whiners who make a big fuss over very little or nothing at all, and not the music itself. And it's largely psychological trickery... a lot of peer pressure is involved when you enjoy music honestly and dearly but some "friends" try to convince you not to listen to it on the grounds it is "cheesy". Whatever, just listen to what you like and have a good time. :)
I bet if a bunch of us started calling some tracks "cabbage" and spread it around on other message boards, that term would catch on too. Hey, it worked for "clownstep".
Herd mentality for better or worse, oui? |

dont forget vocals man.. i mean come on ....
flight 634 = :eyes:
flight 643 [love on fire] = :stongue:
riva - stringer = :D
riva - stringer [danii minogues cheesy quaver for the beer boy raver version]* = :nervous:
the very fact that stringer had danii minogues vocals on there made it seem as if it was purely meant for the charts.. as she has one of the most poppy voices ive ever heard. and im not gonna say anything about 643 [loves on fire] cos frankly tiesto must have had a gun to his head to agree to rel that chart bound.
* = i made that remix name up :D |

| also cheese can be defined 2 ways.. a] in an elitest way, a hardcore die hard trance fan will prolly say judge jules plays cheese.. just cos he'll drop the 1 or 2 less discerning tracks in his set. and b] cheese as in ayumi hamasaki, which [id have thought] was completely intentionally cheesetastic |

Ayumi Hamasaki remixes too... the Avex Trax catalogue... MMM you said it!!! :D
The Japanese celebrate their Cheese proudly without shame. In fact, not only them but seems like European and Asian culture is more open to it, generally speaking... some of the commercials they air over there -- hilarious, but very cool stuff! |
