ok I have nothing against gay ppl (really), but I remember when we went to the lawler/avb party last year, there was a gay party in the guv. we had to wait for coatcheck there. To tell you the truth,I wasn't comfortable there at all (most were gay parade type).

and about the music part, honestly, I never go any place JUST for the music (crowd and vibe are important for some :)

I agree, crowd and vibe are VERY important. The party you are talking about in the Guv was a "Circuit Party" and that is a very "unique" gay vibe. Most of my gay friends quite dislike that sort of thing. LOL, around 7am I went into the Guv to check out Peter Rauhoffer and he was spinning some sick tribal. I didn't know it was supposed to be a circuit party in there, and after 5 minutes I was completely surrounded by shirtless guys (I suppose I should be flattered, haha) and all of a sudden I looked around the room and was thinking "WTF??" Two thirds of the room were shirtless guys. Anyway, I had to get out of there as that was a bit much.

Now, I am a little distraught at gay oriented comments on the site (yours wasn't that bad). Many of our fellow TAs are gay and how do you think they feel reading the "I'm not homophobic, but....." comments?

RJ......were you at this party?? It was rammed tight with shirtless guys groping each other. I remember standing in the Goldclub lounge and looking down at the guv and i think MAYBE 100 of the 2000+ people had shirts on, and there was maybe 20 girls in the whole place.

I was at the party - I know what the audience was like - I had a great time and loved every minute of it.

You misunderstood man. I meant "give your head a shake - being uncomfortable around someone because they are gay?!? seriously.. give your head a shake"...

I dont think im homophobic at all by saying i dont like circuit parties, and do not enjoy being surrounded by a sea of gay shirtless guys. Actually when i think of it, i dont like being surrounded by ANY shirtless guys (gay or straight) when i party. It just seems to be a theme of circuit parties that if your gay, throw away your shirt and bring out the rubbing oils.

Ok, i agree with you there. But i think it was just the abundance of shirtless greased up guys that were agressively passive towards non gays that gives people that uncomfortable feeling. Ive experienced that before as well.

There's something about "I have nothing against X, but..." statements that I have difficulty taking seriously. If you're uncomfortable say so directly, without the attempted camouflage.

"I am uncomfortable with being surrounded by hundreds of shirtless gay guys..."

THERE!!!

Now, on the other hand, if that was hundreds of shirtless girls (straight or lesbian), I would be more than comfortable with that... ;) :D

I wouldn't say some of us are simply homophobic ("homophobia - Fear of or contempt for lesbians and gay men"), but not everyone likes having all gay people around them. It's like asking a 6'6" black african dude to walk into a club full of 5'5" chinese dudes and feel comfortable... I guess he's rather hit one of those hip-hop clubs and pick up some hotties instead. Get the point? Good!

boa-redux
It seems that every few weeks we have to re-address this issue!!!!!
Boa is a crossover club ( no this does not mean we want you to cross to the other side) ; but a club where a cross section of society of all races, beliefs and sexual orientation go, with one common thread - music and the love of it.
NO idream , is not a gay party nor is it a straight party, and yes we do promote in the "gayberhood" because honestly an all straight after hours dance club is about as exiting as a trip to the dentist.
Interestingly enough we have yet to receive any comments from any of our gay clientelle about being surrounded by all these straight people.
Circuit parties are promoted as such, just like any other sexually oriented parties (SATISFY FRIDAYS AT BOA), so if your concern is about image, may we suggest another club where posers are the clientelle of choice. But if your passion is music, then close your eyes, listen, dance and when you reopen your eyes you'll discover you are surrounded by people just like you.
