What are you talking about
The unemployment rate BY DEFINITION is the percentage of employable people actively seeking work, out of the total number of employable people. |

If you desire a job, you are included in the unemployment survey. Unless you're resigned to starving to death, you are seeking work. Or you have no need to look for a job.

Sigh ... ok why don't you look at what standard the BLS uses to determine what a person actively seeking work is:
| quote: |
Unemployed persons are:
All persons who did not have a job at all during the survey week, made specific active efforts to find a job during the prior 4 weeks, and were available for work (unless temporarily ill).
All persons who were not working and were waiting to be called back to a job from which they had been laid off need not be looking for work to be classified as unemployed.
|
Now then, what type of person stops looking for work for a month, accepting the fact that making ANY effort to look for a job is not worth ANY potential benefits gained from looking. But by all means, continue with the personal attacks if it makes you feel better. |

Right, the answer is a person that is not included in the determination of the unemployment rate
Does that somehow prove me wrong? No, you are just repeating what ive said

My point is a clarification of who is officially classified as unemployed. Those who truly need jobs are always classified as unemployed because the alternative is poverty. Therefore I was attempting to void off distortions that the mass multitudes are dropping off the unemployment report because they are simply discouraged ... that is not the case. One would need not only to become discouraged but resigned to poverty should they not be included in the unemployment report. I'm not entirely certain how many of the population would undertake such action. But if you wish to claim that it is a significant amount people than that's your perogative ... I have no credible data to prove otherwise. I'm merely providing my input on the matter ... funny how you feel the need to attack those for doing so. |

So anyone unemployed out here on the post and living in the US?
If you're not employed say so and state your reasons why you are not.
I do not want to hear about derelicts on a stret corner or someone the poster is not remotely related to. If one of our posters is not employed we can possibly help.

Well your input is wrong
And you keep saying its right without proving me wrong!
WTH
We are not talking about the unemployed. We are talking about the unemployment rate.
And a bum that is begging for quarters and is living on the sreet with no hope is not included in the calculation just as a law school graduate who, instead of lookng for work, is bumming around his rich parents house is not included either!!!
And how the hell is poverty even relevant here?
Same for anyone who is not looking for a job filthy rich or plain filthy, that person IS NOT INCLUDED in calculating the rate.
But Q5echo doesn't even know this basic , and neither do you, but still the both of you continue to argue all these Greenspan scale theories!
Get some goddamn education first. |

Sigh ... ok look, the unemployment figure is designed to capture those who WANT to look for work and those who NEED to look for work. If you're a daddy's rich kid who spends 10 minutes a year looking for a job then you're not on the unemployment report because that would be a statistical anomoly. Poverty is largely relevant becuase that is one of the MAJOR reasons most people even work! For christ's sake I'm going to reiterate myself here ... it doesn't matter if you're filthy rich or filthy poor, as long as you WANT a job, which is evident by you LOOKING for a job, you're included on the unemployment report. If you're in a situation such that you don't even care to look for a job than you're an irrelevant statistic that should not be included even in the event that the job market is doing well. But PLEASE tell me how the unemployment report should be revised to provide an effective government statistic. But hey ... Canada's unemployment rate is conducted in a similar manner, at 7.4% just THINK of how many there are not counted who are looking for work!!!
Nice to know my economics degree doesn't count as education  |

I'm not arguing with you man.
There are unemployed, but employable, people that are not looking for employment I was one of them. Collected unemployment for eight months in '94
Besides the comment I made about the unemployment rate vs. the scrubs noy looking for work was, admittedly, an exaggeration, a generalization, a hypothization;)
please accept my humble apology.
P.S. I'm a high school drop out. dumbest decision I ever made. |
