ATI Vid Card AGP Problems

The Hardware:
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128 MB 8X AGP card
Asus A7N8X-X Mobo
Problem:
Cannot put the AGP speed up to 8X. My Set AGP Speed tab has it set to Off
can't even put it up to 2x, wtf
i have the current catalyst drivers and i havent been able to run it at 8X since got it
anyone have a solution? |

First of all your motherboard doesn't support AGP 8X.:p
So don't even try that. Your motherboard, if I am not mistaken goes upto 4X.
From where are you checking the AGP configuration? I think you will be able to change the AGP to 4X from your BIOS. And set your AGP aperture to 128MB or so. |

i know i ed up
that was my old board, i have an Asus A7N8X-X
and i cant change the AGP speed from BIOS, but i will restart and check the aperature |

| Yup, A7N8X-X supports AGP 8X. Where are you checking your AGP settings from? |

just from control panel, display settings, setting, advanced..., then AGP Speed tab |

There isn't much of a difference, but I rather run my VGA card at its optimal.
BTW do you have FastWrite enabled in your BIOS? |

Lol! Great post. Save the video card for your next motherboard upgrade or even your next computer. Most MOBOs off of the shelf these days slave off of RAM, so your video card will save memory because it comes with its own. BTW the 9600 is a good video card. The 9800 is a lot better, but don't toss it for any means...!

FastWrite is Enabled in BIOS
AGP Aperature Size is 128
i just updated my chipset, BIOS is current version.
still i cannot enable AGP speed, and Fastwrite option in the display settings, advanced, SMARTGART tab is ON, but greyed out, so i couldnt even switch it to off, however, AGO speed is off
so once again... wtf!!!

You know what? Try this.
Download SiSoft Sandra from www.download.com
Install and run that and check the information module for your VGA card. See what that says. It will also tell you if it finds any problems with anything.
Some people will say its not the best, blah blah blah, but it works, so just try it out. |

awesome. thanks for the tip. i used sandra years ago, but i thought she was a benchmarking util???
