Gravity...what? (pg. 5)

streakfury,

just curious, but in respect to your statement about other universes, is it still claimed that there are an infinite amount of universes that exist? Whats so special about the 11th dimension..and what does it need in order to have another big bang? I have read a couple books on the string theory but I guess I conveniently overlooked any emphasis on this dimension. I do remember reading something about these Calabi-yau(sorry if i spelled it wrong) shapes that describe all dimensions of the universe.

Also, anyone know of any good space forums? THNX

i'm pretty sure infinite universes do exist with this 'cell' structure of the universe. every time one collides with another, the big band reoccures.

the 11th dimension is what was required to make one of the string theory equations work in harmony with everything else we know about science. but the real missing part is the graviton paritcle found during particle accelerator collisions. if found, it will answer a load, and change a lot, of what we know and want to know about science. this is what einstein tried to solve on his death bed.

Yeah... its M Theory that explains the big bang. It states that there are a number of sheets, like bedclothes wandering around in 11d space, and when they crash into each other, you get a big bang, causing our universe.

And for those who want to be freaked out, Gravity isnt a force, its a pseudoforce, caused by the 4 dimensional 'slipping' of bodies over a 'sheet'.

I've gotta have an exam on this stuff in 4 weeks time. :nervous:

that was like totally ill man. you should be on price is right

Or, if things are in 10 dimensions (as some equations have so far shown, I believe), it could be that our four dimensional "universe" (for lack of a better term) is connected to another 4-dimensional universe via a two dimensional universe. This accounts for the 10 dimensions, as is loosely known as an offshoot of brane theory. Im not gonna spout off on brane theory as I know very little but I know Im pretty sure this perception of it suggests only gravitrons can travel between the dimensions, and that our paralell universe is less than a mm away rfrom us at all times, but we cant see it/go there, etc because we are not those gravitrons.....If anyone knows about this work and can expound on it, Id like to hear it....

Try this, though it may just confuse you more. Again, Im not quite sure ive got the theory right, so I throughly expect to be flamed and corrected by smart TAs...

the 3rd dimension can't a parallel universe. i'm looking at my hand it looks pretty 3d to me

no no no, what im saying is that there are two 4 dimensional "spaces". One is the one we are in right nopw (The 3 dimensions you can see + time, which is generally accepted as the 4th dimension). Just the size of a 2 dimensional space away, there is another 4 dimensional space (another 3 dimensions + time). This is the parallel univers. Hmm, also, we are the parallel universe to whatever is in that one....hmmm
